To beat the heat and stay hydrated, it's a good idea to carry water (I know the CS offer water for free).

Do you folk's carry water with you though, so you have it while in line or between attractions?

What kind of Water Bottle do you use? (a pictures worth 1000 words - and one post :) ). And how do you keep your water cold?

i always get the regular water bottles at the store. i like empty a little bit out and freeze them, this way they will stay cold most of the day - bring fresh bottles of water to put in the frozen ones.

if i don't have a freezer, i fill zip lock bags with ice and put that with the water bottles in a small cooler bag. and.. if and when the ice melts, i cut a small hole in the bottom of the bag so that i can transfer the cold water to the bottle.

CS? Care station? Just curious if I am right. Trying to pick up tips for my trip too. If you are getting the refillable mugs, are these good enough, or do I need water too?

C S = counter service restaurant

As for the refillable mugs. There is no where to refill them in the parks and yes you could refill them with water but you have to keep them upright or they will spill. A bottle works better.

We usually get a case of spring water (I prefer the larger bottles - 24 oz?). Everyone puts their initials on one and that's their "park" water bottle. No worries if it gets lost or crushed as we have the rest of the case in our room. As we get thirsty during the day, we find the nearest water fountain, fill the bottles, throw in the contents of a lemonade mix "stick", et voila! It's so durned hot that I don't give a hoot that the water's not ice cold - it's cold enough for me - and the lemonade (or fruit punch, or peach tea, or pink lemonade, or whatever) makes that water go down really fast and easy! :thumbsup2

Yeah... it's COUNTER SERVE's.

All Counter Serve Restaurant's will give you free ice water.

I used a bobble water bottle because Florida water tastes disgusting. I would fill it about 1/3 full the night before and freeze it. Then in the morning fill it to the top. The filter on the bobble bottle makes the water much more palatable!

After that first bottle was gone, I just kept refilling it with free ice water from CS places. I did end up buying a few bottles of water but far less than I would have.

Are there water fountains around the parks? I have a water bottle called a bobble that filters the water..

We have brought a small soft sided cooler and filled it with water bottles and gatorade and ice. We would just refill the ice from the CS restaurants. The only bad factor was that this was an older cooler and sometimes we'd leave behind trickles of water (which folks might have mistaken for something else!) :rolleyes1.

This time I've bought a backpack cooler. Our plan is to freeze water and use that along with ziplock bags filled with ice to keep it cold. Right now we still have a stroller and can keep this in the undercarriage, but the backpack option is with the understanding that our stroller days are numbered.

Bringing the drinks saved us a lot of $ and we did a better job staying hydrated.:thumbsup2

I use something like this:

Transfer my mug beverage (iced tea) to it in the morning and fill it with ice water (and possibly some sort of flavor powder) later in the day. Hands free and very convenient.

For me, the most important feature is that the bottle have a wide opening, so I don't have to stuff ice cubes into a narrow opening one by one. That gets to be a real pain.

I'm looking to get those things that hold the water bottle...Anybody know where you can get em?

I am going to buy a filtered bottle before my next trip, but up to now, we have a soft side cooler and/or a small insulated bag that we put several bottles in, along with ice, our sandwiches, some fruit,e tc.

depending on the weather and number of folks in our group, we can bring from 6-12 bottles. Since we have a stroller, weight isn't an issue, just the number of bags, especially if its just me and the kids.

The filtered water bottle would allow me to have one for me, and our kids' bottles, which are insulated themselves (can be left all day in the car and its still cold inside, that's how good they are).

What we do, since we have so many, is freeze about 2-4 depending on how many we start with. Those will stay in the insulated bag to allow them to thaw quicker than the cooler. We will drink those later on the day.

And I recommend, as a PP stated, let some water out so you don't have them pop. I've also taken them out when they are slushy.

I've not done the bottles (we have reusable ones too) with 1/3 frozen, then filled one that 1/3 is frozen. That seems like a good idea.

Last trip, I used a metal Sigg water bottle I bought for $15 at my local supermarket and just refilled it at the water fountains. The metal kept the water relatively cool, even in early Sept. heat, and was easy to clean with hot soapy water every night.

We have reusable aluminum water bottles we got at Target. My wife carries a fairly large backpack with her into the parks, and discovered last year that if she wrapped one or two of the water bottles up in one of the towels from the room, then stuffed them into the middle of her backpack, those suckers stay cold for HOURS!

I've gotten them at Walmart and Walgreens. It is hard to find ones that will fit slung across the body so it will stay put. Most of them have shorter straps now.

This is what we use. Hangs from our Disney bottle straps. Fill up from water fountains. Filter in the cap.
