Water Ball throwing in main pools?

Hi all,

A friend of mine asked me if they allow water ball throwing in the main pools at Disney resorts that have lifeguards. (It's a pet peeve of hers, honestly I'm not a big fan of it either. It's hard to relax in a pool when you are afraid of getting bonked in the head by a ball. Yes - which has happened to me when we stayed at a resort in the Caribbean )

I know I have definitely seen people throwing water balls / footballs in the quiet pools a lot on my last visit, we stayed at BoardWalk Villas and only swam in the quiet pool by community hall as my kids wanted no part of the clown pool. But I'm not sure if I recall people playing ball in the main pools that have a lifeguard.

I just wanted to see if anyone else knows the answer to this,

It's up to the lifeguard on duty... they're not prohibited by any means. I can't see the lifeguard saying, "no" if you're the only family in the pool but if the place is packed and every chair is full, yes, I would certainly hope that the lifeguards would say, "too crowded for your toys at this time".

We've seen lots of people tossing balls around in the pools, and have done so ourselves, even when the pools are fairly crowded. Everyone is usually pretty tolerant about it as long as the pools is not packed. We stayed at All Star Sports and the resort provided beach balls in the pool.

I was in the main pool at BWI a few years ago and some were throwing balls. The lifeguard asked to feel the ball to make sure it was soft. It apparently passed the inspection because the ball throwing continued.

We have seen people throwing water balls in the main pool at Fort Wilderness. The lifeguard only stopped them after my husband and another person told them there were too many people in the pool to be throwing the ball...They were being really rude...of course I got hit in the head before they stopped...

This is what we experienced at the BWI pool last December. My DS9 and I were throwing a ball (I believe it was one of the soft basketballs he had won on the Boardwalk the night before) and a lifeguard came over to feel it. She told us our type of ball was not permitted, so she gave us a smaller, softer one to use instead. At the end of our pool time, we tried to give the ball back, but she said it was ours to keep. It was a very sweet gesture.

It's only my opinion, but no other guest should have to worry about getting hit in the head or face with anything in the pool. It's just about courtesy to the other guests.

That's why there are lifeguards and CM's on hand to make sure WDW sanctioned balls are being used in empty spaces in the pools. As a courtesy to other guests, we would never throw a ball in an area that other guests were using. There are also volleyball games at SAB, sanctioned by WDW . . .
