I bought it a while back and watch it whenever I need a good cry.
I don't really have a favorite line,
and I only got to watch a second of it on TV today,
but where I had to turn it off was when Ouisa and Clairee
were in the store and their cart is piled high with meat and canned goods.
Clairee tosses in several cans of pork & beans,
and Ouisa says, "It's only a gesture," (for the father)
and Clairee says, "He loves pork & beans, he eats them with everything!"
And Ouisa makes one of her GREAT faces, saying,
"Well that explains a lot!" and then puts some back on the shelf.
It just cracked me up!

I have just relived this movie reading this thread!

When I got home from my hair appointment last week, I said, "'Just make it look like a brown football helmet' was NOT what I said to the stylist!"

My favorite scene is when Shelby is dying and her mom is holding her hand. Her dad can't watch and M'Lynn remarks "I was there when she came into the world and I'll be there when she leaves" (paraphrase--I'm always crying so much I can't exactly hear the words.)

"I was there when that sweet creature drifted into my life and I was there when she drifted out."

This is one of my favorite movies. We even did this play in high school (I was Truvy) and it was the most fun!!! If I had to pick a favorite line it would probably be..... oh! Ok this isn't really a line so much as a part of the movie, at the end when Clairee tells Jack Jr. the story about the evil witch named Ouisa and then Ouisa comes up and Jack Jr. runs off screaming . Love this movie!!

You know the first few times I saw this movie I thought the same. Then I must've seen her name in the credits or something. I'm guessing it's short for Louisa.

Don't worry, you're not crazy. It's "Ouiser" which is indeed short for Louisa.

Steel Magnolias is my favorite movie of all time, so I can't really pick a favorite line. Plus, it's not just the lines themselves but the way they were delivered that makes them so funny!
