Watches - yes, more, but I need your help

Another watch thread, but I need your help.

I have a decent sum of money to spend on one or two watches. Like, really nice ones. Lifelong ones. I'm celebrating a life event.

Do I :

1. Buy one VERY beautiful watch, a real statement
2. Buy two very nice watches, each half the cost of the above, but still extremely nice

Opinions?

I can only share an experience of my own. Many years ago, I had an opportunity to buy a beautiful watch set in 14K yellow gold. At the time, I thought it was too much to spend; of course now, with the price of gold, I realize that it would have been a great investment. I still think about that watch.
So if I had your choice to make, I would invest in the one very nice watch.

Set in GOLD or not would not be a major factor for myself. Our son has been acquiring watches for some TIME now and does so for manufacturing lineage, detail to movement as well a visual appeal. Breguet's Souscription is one I would like to own.

The cheapest is $35,000, US. But they ARE a luxury brand. Sadly well beyond my means. My most expensive watch is £2,800. And that was a one-off for my 21st!
