With a recent thread discussing how much spending money and how much snacks cost, it made me think of one of our trips to DLR when DD was 5. Apparently she ate too much junk food (corn dogs, cotton candy, dole whips, etc.). The next morning on our flight home she threw up on the airplane! It was everywhere. I felt SO bad for all the passengers right by us because it did NOT smell good. Luckily it was right before the plane landed. We were staying on the plane for the next leg to our destination. They literally removed the entire seat and replaced it with a new one!!!!!

It's nice to go all out on vacation, but you still might want to be careful!

It could have been too much junk food, or it could have been motion sickness, or food poisoning, or exhaustion, or a stomach bug, or an allergy. Kids throwing up is never fun, in fact it is one of my least favorite parts about being a mom! There is really no way to predict though, and keeping kids from treats on vacation does not mean that they WON'T throw up.

Very true!

You are so right. One time we took a day trip in the car and my son was nibbling away in the back seat the whole time. We were laughing at him and saying he sounded like a squirrel back there. Later that day, up it came! Going to amusement parks, long car rides, plane rides, etc. adds motion sickness to the mix. A perfect combo for throwing up! My son also threw up in the bushes at POFQ at WDW after returning from Magic Kingdom and 2 turns on Big Thunder Mountain. Vacations can be so rough! :thumbsup2

Replacing the seat....now that makes sense!

My son got sick right before we had to buckle up for landing on one trip home. It was really bad, and the people around us were SO nice about it. The FAs didn't seem that worried about it after we had landed (they had given us paper towels to clean up what we could during landing...or more specifically for DH to clean up, b/c DS and I moved to empty seats to make clean up easier), and now I figure they just told the cleaners to change out the seat.

(poor DS was diagnosed two days later with a really horrible case of strep...the long test showed REALLY high numbers, so bad even the naturopath gave him antibiotics. So in our case, DS was sick b/c he was getting sick.)

I still remember me at about 8 or 9, lots of junk food and a Scooby Doo rollercoaster (kiddie one). It was an unfortunate combination. Hence I've always monitored the intake, including for the kids. I will say once you learn that lesson, it usually doesn't have to be repeated!

They had to remove the seat because "throw up" in a public place is considered a biohazard because of possible pathogens that might be present. Unfortunately, Bumbershoot had a perfect example of this. :)

That is the cool thing about planes. Their seats are not completely bolted to the floor. They can be moved, or changed out. I am sure they get a lot of throw up on their planes, and if not some out of control bladder issues. But you are right... Be careful what you eat, especially on your last day or on the day you go home. This happened to my mom as well. She got extremly unlucky after she ate a few things that she probably shouldnt have. We had a ton of turbulence on that flight, and my poor mom.... She got stuck beside a guy who was getting sea sick from all the turbulence and began sweating. He took his shoes and socks off, and every time we had a bump he became flatulent  ... Needless to say mom got sick.

Good point!

I don't know about you but before each vacation, I up my family's dose of Vit C. With airplanes, non organic foods, germs, excitement, lack of sleep etc...we all get to feeling "not like ourselves".

I also take our daily vitamins with us & some homeopathic meds just in case. Alot of meds like Coldcalm & Zicam are meant to be taken at the first sign of symptoms and really can help stop a nasty bug from forming.

Unfortunately, it seems that if anyone of the 3 of us gets sick, it's usually me! Must be all the planning and might have something to do with getting up at 4am to get the family ready for a day in the parks while my boys sleep in....ah, a mother's job is never done.
