Wasting away again in Loserville-(all welcome to grab an adult beverage and come in)

Morning all.
Nothing much to do here except do alittle cleaning :scared1: Was planning on heading over to Walmart in a bit to get a few things, but might have to wait to see what FE wants me to bring him for lunch & dinner (another 24hr shift).
Is it bad that I'm trying to figure out what to make for dinner before I even had breakfast? It's just because we have another game tomorrow and plan on having whatever leftovers we have from tonight's dinner.

Luna, I am one who (unfortunately) DOES understand your loss, the depth of the pain and the blindsided crying jags. Please know that I am here for you. Feel free to PM me or e-mail me. My address is posted yonder...

Hugs to you, babe...it is a tough week, I know!

 Big hug to you too..

Hi Shay, welcome home!!

Rough week this week for me. 11th anniversary of my daughter Shannon's death. Falls on Saturday, which is the day she actually died on. I keep gettiing sideblinded by crying jags off and on, its just the way it goes sometimes, you just can't tell then WHAM! one smacks you in the side of the head:sad2:

This august 8th will be the 12th anniversary of us losing our son Spencer. You think you are doing fine and then all of a sudden it hits you again so hard you can barely breathe. You never get over it you just get through it. I will be keeping Shannon in my thoughts and your family as well and hope you make it through this week and Saturday and cherish your memories and find some peace.

My grandma is really sick right now and I just feel so disconeccted about the whole thing. I am very sad but it just isn't the same as losing a child. She lost my godmother at age 30 and I know she will be with her again after she has been with all of us for all these years. So I take comfort in that actually.

Wow, you guys. I had no idea and my heart just aches for all of you. I can't think of anything to say. I don't want to say the wrong thing, but I don't want to say nothing either. I'm here. I'm a good listener. I'd gather everyone up and tuck you in blankies and feed you and give you big hugs if I could.

Hugs for Luna, Monique and MNFM:grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: We're here for you if you need to let it go....

Morning everyone!
At least you didn't say GOOD! I cringe everytime I see that 5:30am next to your post:headache:

Morning everyone. Did I miss anything? Nothing new here. Just watched tv with the hubby last night. He was feeliing ignored by my recent rash of online chatting so I spent the evening with him. Watched DWTS and an old CSI--very exciting evening!

I need to vacuum and do laundry today--maybe later. I think I'll:surfweb: . I haven't had my coffee yet.

Hey guys!! Lots of catching up to do on my reading. I've actually been busy this week. Hope everyone has a good day!!

Thanks guys, I appreciate it. Hugs for all of us that have lost children far too soon.

Hey guys...I am the Riddle Goddess today and well no one is interested in my riddle. Anyone want to head over to the games board and give it a shot?

Official "mornin" to y'all. I also cringe when I see Lara's morning greeting with the time she posts...:scared:

Today I have to go across town to get dog food. Yes, there is dogfood much closer to us, but the vet says we should use Senior food for Slobbermouth and his sidekick, Little Joe. And I need a BIG bag, so I am off to Pet Smart. While I'm over on that side of town, I may do a little shopping.

Those of you with boys, do they collect Bakugans? I am sure I spelled that wrong. Anyway, mine like to trade and collect them, they had a few then I washed some (didn't check pockets..) and ruined them. So I have been trying to find Bakugans for my boys, and they are so popular, I haven't been able to find them for weeks. So I am going to hit all the stores that may carry them to see if I can find some.

The boys are testing this week and next . Have your kids done the CRCT testing yet? I was talking to one of the proctors and she said one little boy threw up yesterday, he was so stressed out by the test. I have been trying not to make a big deal out of it to my boys, but my DS8 wants to get into Search really bad, and he knows it depends on his CRCT scores..So he was stressed out a little, kept saying he was going to fail and he didn't know anything. Isn't that terrrible for these little kids to have to get worked up about a standardized test? I hate NCLB...anyway, after his first part of the test yesterday, he said he thought he did well, and it wasn't that bad after all.

So I am off for now...CUL8R..

Morning Everyone.

Great big hugs to all that need them

Queenie, I hate NCLB too. The kids I babysit freak out over the tests, and its just awful. That whole stupid act or law or whatever it is needs to be tossed.

I have a big history test today I have to study for, so im trying to keep off the computer. Hope everyone's days go well.

:wave2:

Are they like the EOG (End Of Grade) tests? Where they can't move up to the next grade if they don't pass?

Our's start on the 20th of May & this is #1DS's first year taking them.
Usually the Little League doesn't schedule games that week, but for some odd reason they have us scheduled to play a game after the first day of testing :scared1: I told FE that I'm contemplating not having #1DS play that day if it's not reschduled. Yeah it's at 5:30 but he doesn't need to be exhausted by bedtime.

     For all of you that have lost a child. Just like RV said I have no words. Just know that we are here for you guys :grouphug:

Can I ask a question is standardized testing new to public schools?

I went to Catholic school my whole life, and every year 3rd thru 8th we had testing. Always had to have those #2 pencils. Your scores would determine Math and Reading groups along with your grades and teacher reommendations. I stunk at standardized testing but got into the higher groups bc of my grades.

DS10 takes them in the fall every every year since third grade, second grade they took them in the spring and he will take them every fall until 8th. This score is part of getting into Honors Math. In 7th and 8th they will help with tracking in HS. They are called Terra Novas here. He is in Catholic shcool as well.

I guess maybe this is why I dont get the uproar about NCLB bc I have always had standardized testing in my education.

I am not trying to be snarky, I guess I just dont get it

I took standardized tests as well and was in public school. My kids do, too. They just don't take them every year. NCLB is screwy in many ways (IMHO) In theory, it is a great idea. In practice, it is hurting our schools and kids. Kids are being moved up grades when they shouldn't be(no more holding back) and the kids who are above their grade-level are not appropriately challenged (again, only my opinion!). That's only a very small part of it.

Here the kids take a different test(MAT), but I think they are all pretty much the same. The problem with using these tests as a measurement of kids' progress ot teachers' success is just that not everyone takes tests well. There are those who put enormous pressure on themselves (and their kids) to do well and that has a detrimental effect on their scores because they can't take the pressure. The tests are what some call a necessary evil. They don't accurately measure the kids' knowledge, but we don't really have anything else objective, so that's what we use. :confused3 Clear as mud?

On the brighter side:
It's supposed to actually get above 70 today! I may even open a window. Of course, then no one will be able to sleep tonight. The bradford pears and the cherry trees are all blossoming now and that's what seems to aggravate everyone's allergies here. I am waiting anxiously for some lilac blooms, too, even though DH is horribly allergic to those! I just love when it starts to feel like spring and it feels like we've waited so long for this one. Sadly, my azaelas and a few other bushes didn't survive the winter, though, so I may have to go shopping for more. Wonder if I can con DH into planting for me?

Tink, the CRCT (I thought this was a nationwide test..shows how much I know) does determine if they can move into the next grade, but only for 1st, 3rd, and 5th..:confused3

Mkrop, I didn't take your post snarkily (new word:idea: ). My kids take tests in the fall, too. But this one is basically a grade for the school and the teachers. Even though it can determine pass/fail for the kids. The funding and grading OF THE SCHOOLS are based on these tests. When one of our schools falls into the "needs improvement" category 3 times...heads roll, and schools can close. So the main incentive of our school district is passing these tests. The rating system takes nothing else into account..no prior grades, student improvement, effort. The crazy thing is that much of the months leading up to this, in fact every thing that is taught, is based on doing well on this test. So they are teaching the kids how to take a test. I just think it's overkill...I mean a first grader throwing up over stess about a test? That's messed up.

My DS10 is in the SEARCH program. He also has ADD and he is very slow and meticulous with his work-he knows the answers, but it he doesn't want to be rushed.. So his teacher was worried if he was going to take too long coloring in all those little bubbles on the test. He finished yesterday, hope he can again today.

I sound like I am complaining about our school, I am not. We have been lucky enough to have one of the best elementary schools in our very poorly rated county-it is a magnet school. They are so overwhelmed with trying to teach kids what they need to know, and teaching them how to take this test, I don't know how they do it. God Bless 'em.

And yes, I well remember sitting at my desk with my #2 pencils sharpened, and filling in those little "bubbles". I dont' think I was ever stressed over them.

Today was great shopping day!! I got everything I was looking for....and more!!

I found many, many, many of those Bakugans I was talking about. The stores must have just put them out on the shelves. I don't feel like going back to the stores with my boys..they may be sold out by the time we can go...so I bought about $100 worth of the stupid things. I am going to let them chose from what I bought and take the other $80 back. Do you guys ever do this? Buy a bunch of things to let them chose at home so you don't have to drag them out to the store and whine and beg for everything in the store? For me it's so much easier to get an assortment of whatever and let them pick at home, then take the rest back. I do this with clothes and shoes, too. Walmart must think I a nut..

Also at Target I found some cool shorts for them clearanced to $3.48. So I bought 5 pair, one of each color. They are both size SKINNY so they can both wear them..they will still be long/short enough for both!

Also found a couple of end of year/we made it/good job presents for them when school gets out. I usually buy them a present to celebrate the end of school. I found some bait buckets that go with those doggone Rocket fishing poles they have been wanting. I need to order those from Amazon, now that I think of it.

I got some other stuff, too but I can't remember what it was.

I didn't even touch the spare bedroom yet, I wanted to have that done by Monday...:headache: But ritght now, Judge Judy is on. So you know where to find me...buy...I mean bye...

Ooops. I was laying on the couch Dis-ing cause my back was hurting & I fell asleep .
Well atleast I'm refreshed to chat tonight

So, I renewed the registration on our vehicles. Sticker shock!! We bought the minivan a couple of months ago...
$500.80
minivan
2000 truck
2000 motorcycle
2004 cargo trailer

I was just spoiled. I had a 12 year old car and it only would have been like $60 for the year. The van was 5 times that.

But it's done.

DH is grilling steaks tonight and he's supposed to stop for fresh Asparagus on the way home!!
