So, yesterday afternoon I was stung by a yellowjacket on my back. Within 10 minutes, my eyes were watering and itching, I had post-nasal drip and coughing and everywhere on my body started itching. I couldn't keep still between the itching and moving (seemed like a rush of caffeine all at once). I have never had a reaction before (only stung once 10 years ago). I took some Benadryl and felt better (throat never totally closed up - just a bit it seemed).

Today, I am still itching all over. My eyes are fine but I am still having random itches all over the place. :confused3 Driving me bonkers so I took some more Benadryl (totally knocks me out).

Do allergic reactions last this long? Or am I just losing my mind?

Allergist is closed today and tomorrow.

How long can I expect this to hang on? Any advice or experience? Does this sound like an allergic reaction (it does to me from my reading)?

my husband has a severe bee allergy and has to carry an epipen at all times. last time he was stung, even with the shot he was very sick for about 24 hours:sad1:

Hard to predict. Allergic reactions can become more severe over time. The last time DH had a serious exposure to an allergen, he was ill for about 48 hours. If your reaction is severe, go to the E.R. Ask to have an epipen prescribed.

My friend had an allergic reaction to humuus. Her face swelled, she got hives, she was wheezing, had to go to the hospital. The whole works. It took 2 weeks for her swelling to go down. That was an extreme case.

In your case, I'd say it may take a few days.

Not sure how long it will last, but first thing Monday you should get to your doctor and get an epi-pen. If you were to get stung again, your next reaction has a very high chance of being worse!

sounds like you need to see your allergist for some prednisone.

I have been stung twice (bit 3x each) in the last 6 weeks on my chest and abdomen. I react immediately by the swelling, itch and tender hot redness that radiates outward. Both times the affected area measured 8" or more. I carry an epi, but have not had to use it yet, thankfully.

The only relief I found was was a cool compress and the prednisone helped immensely. It's just a 6 day pak.

I know how bothersome it is, but if all else is failing, call your doctor.

Hope you get some relief soon!
