Washington DC Hotels

My brother, a few friends and I are looking at going to washington dc for a weekend---some of us have never been (including myself)--somehow I got talked into finding the hotel so I am turning to you guys for some help.

I searhched online and found a ton of choices but i have no idea where anything is! I was looking for some suggestions of hotels that are possibly in walking distance of many of the "tourist attractions"---We want to be able to leave the car parked!

The hotel situation just depends on how much you want to spend and when you are coming. Are ya'll planning on doing the clubs and going out thing in the evenings?

We always suggest people stay in Old Town on King Street. There are several nice options there including a some suite hotels so ya'll could split the costs of one room.

If you plan to go out on the town at night, I would suggest staying in the city for the easy access.

I haven't talked to you in forever and two days!

The hotels in Old Town on King Street are easy to get to the metro. There is a Residence Inn down there and I believe an Embassy Suites also.

Pentagon City Ritz Carlton is really nice and the metro runs right underneath.

There are always offers on Travel Zoo if you check there.

We stayed at the Embassy Suites in Old Town that lovemygoofy posted about and we're very happy with it. It was within walking distance to the Metro. We never had to use the car to get anywhere.

If driving you do not want anything in Maryland or in NorthEast DC. And I don't think there are any decent places in SouthEast DC either.

Hotels in DC itself in NW and SW tend to be expensive, but if you are coming for a weekend only (in on Friday, out on Sunday or Monday) you can get good rates at major hotels as they are business (weekday) oriented.

If you go into Virginia, look in the Old Town Alexandria area, Crystal City, Pentagon City, or Rosslyn areas.

We just stayed at the doubletree suites near Georgetown university. It was great! our price was $135 a night AND it had a pool. Very few hotels have pools, but I think it is only available during summer months because it is up on the roof.

The suites had 2 bed and another couch that folds out. It has a kitchen in it too. It is about 2 blocks from a metro station, super easy to get to. And the watergate complex is about 1 1/2 blocks the other way and it has a grocery store, so it worked out very well.

Ditto! We stayed here and loved it! The Metro is so easy to use, and the ES is literally right across the street.

We also love the Embassy Suites in Old Town! Although honestly, as long as you're close to a Metro stop you really can't go wrong. The Metro is clean, safe and takes you anywhere you want to go, so no driving is necessary. We used to stay at the Holiday Inn in Ballston, eight blocks from the Metro in Virginia, back in the 80s when HI offered $29/night Great Rates We got a fabulous deal one year at a place called the Henley Park, in the middle of downtown. We love staying on Dupont Circle, but it's gotten ridiculously expensive in the past few years.

I'd go to Expedia, Kayak, Orbitz, whichever you prefer, and look for deals. Then check the distance to the Metro. As long you're within ten blocks or so, you're golden. Have a wonderful trip!!

Embassy suites is def the way to go. good sized rooms. Cooked to order breakfast. Happy hour every night. And everytime I've stayed at them the staff has been top notch, really make the experience having knowledgable, friendly, efficient staff.

We stayed at the Embassy Suites near the convention center for NJ teacher's convention in November. Great hotel! Good breakfast, manager's cocktail reception and they had a pool for my kids. It is also conveniently located - a quick walk to the Smithsonian and good restaurants. Have fun!

In Aug. I took three of my kids on a spur of the moment trip (decided on a Wed. to leave on Fri.). For the last part of the trip we went to DC, and stayed in a boutique hotel called the Hotel Madera.

It was cheap, at least I thought so for DC. I paid $179.00 a night. I really thought it was going to be a dicey hotel. It has balcony rooms, which when you pull up to the hotel makes it look a little funky. My first instinct was to run.

I was very pleasantly surprised though by this hotel. The room was nice and clean, the staff was wonderful. Every evening around 5 or 6:00 they have a wine reception in the lobby. They have a restaurant connected to it, that was very good. And you know, I liked having the balcony to hang out on.

I would stay there again. It is located in the Dupont Circle area. The Metro was maybe two blocks away. The Metro is very easy to navigate. In fact, my kids had in figured out by the second day there.
