Washing shirts?

I'm gonna do an iron, and it's been awhile since I've done one. I know I have to wash the tshirt first from the store, but can I use fabric softener in the wash cycle?

No fabric softner or dryer sheets before the transfer.

Thanks sooo much. That thought crossed my mind just as I started the wash with fabric softener, so I stopped the wash. I guess it's a good thing that I listen to the voices in my head.

Oh, that was sweet, but I had a big birthday on Friday. As my youngest dgs says, "Nana you are old, but Papa and Granny are "real old". He is so cute, you have to love him. lol
