Is this trip for me or the kids?!?!

Looking for some advice or encouragement! I have created designs in PhotoImpact to make shirts for my kids for our March trip. Already printed them to make autograph books for the kids and I'm happy with them. But I'm afraid to commit to a shirt! I bought HP light transfer paper...I'm using white t-shirts. Question is...do these shirts wash well or in a few washes will the images fade and not look too great? My son got a free spiderman transfer and after one or two washings it had faded away to nothing. I've spent about $25 on shirts and paper and would rather not waste the shirts if the images won't be long lasting. Can anyone share their experiences? Thanks!
