The thought of someone changing their sheets only once a month makes me feel . YUCK! You are in contact with that fabric for 8 hours every night for every night...would you wear the same pair of jeans for a month? Or the same pair of pajamas for a month? Or the same pair of socks for a month?

We change our sheets every weekend. Cannot imagine doing it less frequently because we let our puppy princess (a little French Bulldog) sleep in the bed with us). Would love to do it more, but I hate doing laundry.

You let a DOG sleep IN the bed with you? And you only change the sheets once a week? Now THAT makes ME feel  YUCK!

Seriously... I wear sweats or pajamas to bed. I am NOT in contact with the sheets, I am in contact with the clothes I am wearing. Of course I don't wear my jeans for a month; they are in contact with me. However, I will wear a cardigan or jacket for a month, and my winter coat for longer, because they are not in contact with my skin- I have clothes on between me and the coat, just like I have clothes on between me and the sheets.

I change my sheets about once a week, but because I have to hang everything to dry it depends largely on the weather as to when I do laundry (my free time and the weather need to both cooperate). So there have been times it's been two weeks, just because it's raining whenever I have free time.

I still hate not having a dryer, but I must admit that I have grown to adore the smell and feel of sheets dried in the sunshine!

When my DH and I first moved in together, he hauled the sheets off the bed every morning. Apparently his mother changed, washed and IRONED his sheets every. single. day. I told him he could fill his boots but there was no way in hell I was washing the sheets every day. He lasted one week doing it on his own. :lmao: Either he or I throw the sheets in the wash every week when we do our laundry (he does his own, I do mine and the kids', mainly because I can't stand how he folds and puts it back. LOL)

All sheets in this house are changed no less than once a week. Most times, more often.

I'm totally grossed out by the people who say they change theirs monthly. :scared1:

What the heck are you doing that making your sheets so dirty?

I agree! Blech. Besides the usual shedding of skin, natural body oil, etc - how about the other things that go on in a bed that require changing sheets? ;)

The bed isn't the only place that happens. How do you wash a couch, the LR floor, the stairs, etc?;)

:lmao:

Do you put your head in clothes too? Your hair and face, and maybe your feet, are all exposed to the sheets. After reading on the DIS that some only wash their hair once a week, I would think those pillow cases would be real grungy.

It's preventative. And it's just good hygiene. :goodvibes

Do you only clean your house if you can see the dirt?

Fair enough. I admit to buying antique white furniture in the living room so I don't have to see the dust (even though I know it's there).

Unfortunately, I'm a little OCD about cleaning. I'm an infection prevention and control nurse, so germs are my bread & butter.

I still let the dog sleep with us, though. I know that skeeves a lot of people out.

thats how i think too.... but i have clean sheets today! :cutie:

This reminds me of the time when my mother, for unknown reasons--possibly related to her medications, didn't wash the sheets on my bed alone for about two months. I was 11 at the time, and not allowed to run the washing machine. Finally I asked her about it, "Oh, every time I go to your room to get your sheets to wash, you've already made your bed." WTH? I still don't get it.

That wouldn't of even crossed my mind at 11! :confused3

No, we have a cleaning lady who does them for us, along with the general laundry and stuff. I usually handle the middle of the night potty accidents and my wife usually handles the vomit.

Heck if I had a cleaning lady (besides me) my sheets would be washed more often too...:confused3

You can justify it to yourself all you want but once a month is just gross!!

In your opinion....and since you are not sleeping in my sheets...your opinion doesn't matter one bit! :thumbsup2

Deep breath... the pillowcases get changed weekly, for sure, but the sheets? FYI, TMI, I don't even get into the bed... age and hormones say sleep on TOP of the bedspread, with a throw for warmth as needed (If you don't get this, wait til you are 45 :rotfl:) Heck, I've suggested to DH that we just rotate the mattress after a couple of weeks so he can sleep in the "clean" side :rotfl2:

And honestly, the dog IN the bed is just disgustingly gross. Dog hair and drool, feet that have walked all over the place, possibly fleas or ticks, noses, muzzles, and tongues that clean not only your dog's body but have been you-know-where on other dogs? :confused3 Gimme month-old sheets ANY day!

That's what I thought. :) For most people doing the job themselves, changing them twice a week isn't a priority.

Well, yes, that is likely true, but to be fair I did try to omit the detail of who did them in my first post so as to not sound as obnoxious or pretentious as I did in my response to your question! I do love the feeling of fresh sheets, though, and probably would make that a priority if I had to do it myself. The toilets and windows, on the other hand, would have to fend for themselves. :)

No joke, my absolute favorite Christmas gift this year, bar none, was from my wife and it was a commercial carpet cleaning system. We have an elderly and, shall we say quite incontinent dog, and I was at my wits end trying to clean up mess after mess on the white carpeting that for some reason is EVERYWHERE in our house. She even got me the upholstery attachment so we can clean up whatever gets on the couches, floors, etc., regardless of its "nature". I love it and have already used it half a dozen times. The dog's reign of terror is over!

Why does anyone really care about this? I don't care if you change your sheets daily or monthly - it doesn't affect me.

I try to get ours done once a week or so with pillow cases done more often. I bathe before going to bed.

I also tend to wash the same sheets and then put them back on the bed. I don't mind washing and drying sheets but I hate to fold them!

Why does anyone really care about this?

Just having fun, just curious, just hanging out on the Community board talking about trivial stuff. :)
I wash them once a week or so, and I really, really like how they feel when they are freshly washed. It also gives me a chance to straighten/smooth everything out.

Biweekly or more often for sick kids, bedwetters or toddler snot mess.
