It all started when I was cleaning out the fabric softener dispenser.... Well actually it started a month or two ago. I had noticed a strange smell from the washer every time it spinned. Today when I ran a cycle to clean out the cleaner I had used is the beginning of the end. I filled up the washer, put in a little Tide and turned it on. I went on about my business and when I went to check on it YIKES :earseek: there was a river in the laundry room. :( We got a bunch of towels and soaked up the water then headed to the local appliance store for help. (Hes a good friend, wouldnt steer us wrong. ) I start telling them about the smell from the spin cycle and the water....he says its the transmission. To make a long story short, we had to end up buying a new washer. Its a Fisher Pankyle (probably spelled it wrong). Our GE Profile was only 5 yrs old. :(

They certainly don't make them the way they used to.

5 years isn't very old for a washer :( Sorry you had to buy a new one, hope you like it.

I guess it was too expensive to repair the old machine? 5 years indeed is quite new! I know I'm using mine since the early 80s! LOL! :)

WOW! only 5 years old. I will have to make a mental note not to buy GE. I have a Sears washing machine that we bought in 92 and as far as I can tell(knocking on wood) everything is running fine. Had a Sears before that and sold it with our house. It was 12 years old at the time.

Sorry you had to buy another washer. It never is a good time to buy major appliances.

5 years isn't old! :(

my parents just bought new ones after like the old ones was 15 years old! lol

I hope you enjoy your new one!

I've got a GE washer and dryer. Have been using them 7 years without one problem.

It was going to be almost 300.00 to get the old one fixed! For that you can almost get a new one! We had an old Frigidaire (before White-Westinghouse bought them out) that lasted 20 years. I think we must have just got a lemon.
