We are in need of replacing our washer and dryer. Does anyone have a Whirlpool Duet Sport or a Whirlpool Cabrio? We have a 2nd floor laundry and have heard about problems with front loaders upstairs (vibrations).

Any advice out there?

In our last house, we had a second floor laundry, and we couldn't believe how noisy it was when our front loading Bosch washer vibrated during the spin cycle, (especially when washing heavy items, like jeans and towels)! At first, we didn't know what we were hearing, and when sitting in the kitchen, we thought the police helicopters must be flying directly overhead! I'm much happier now that we're back in a home with a main floor laundry, although I'm not that crazy about carrying half of the clothes upstairs. In the last house, all of the bedrooms were on the second story, along with the laundry. Good luck with your decision on which washer and dryer to use. Anyone else?

Thanks Martha :)

That is my fear. I would love to go front loading but I'm afraid of the helicopters landing in our laundry room. :rotfl2:

Anyone else? :confused3

The family I nanny for has a Bosch front loading washer and it is the loudest appliance on earth. It sounds like a jet taking off when it spins.

I have a top loading Whirlpool washer. It is less than 3 years old and the tub has rust spots in it. The washer tub is guaranteed, but ONLY the part is covered. I will have to pay for the service call and labor to replace it because it is more than one year old! :furious: I told Whirlpool I am VERY displeased with their warranty. They basically told me tough luck.

So for now we hover next to the washer and snatch the clothes out as soon as it stops so the clothes don't get rusty. I am contemplating what action to take next. Based on this I do NOT recommend their products.

(I am NOT rough on washers. I never use chlorine bleach, I don't overload the washer, and I have no clue why the porcelain has chipped off of the interior of the tub.)

We got a Frigidaire front loader stacking set just this week at Lowes. I LOVE it. It's very quiet, we have a 2nd floor laundry too and no vibration problems. I LOVE this set. It uses 12 gallons of water per load as opposed to 44 in a regular washer, the dryer has a sensor that shuts it off when the clothes are dry. No more guessing at drying times and wasting electricity. It stacks or sits side by side and both even give you an estimated time remaining in the cycle. Dh gets absolutely filthy at work and his clothes are actually coming much cleaner than ever before. Did I mention I LOVE my new washer?

Here's the washer

We did NOT buy the pedestal as pictured. Mainly because at 5'3" when they are stacked the dryer controls are a tad high up for me as it is. The sales guy said it really didn't serve any purpose other than storage anyway. Vibration is cured by good leveling, not the pedestal like some places tried to tell us. I highly recommend mine.

BTW we did a TON of research on front loaders before we chose ours. Both the Neptune and the Cabrio have pending class action suits due to major malfunctions. I know the Cabrio is famous for sucking clothes into the pump and the Neptune had a problem with the seal on the dryer. I assume they've been redesigned and these things may no longer be a problem but I just couldn't get past those issues. Our set was highly recommended by Consumer Reports and was one of the least expensive sets out there. In terms of value for money it's a winner.

We have the Whirlpool Duets washer and dryer. We have a second story laundry room. We did not put the pedistals underneath due to the vibration concern. We found them to actually cause less vibration than our old ones did. We have a beam that runs right under the laundry room.

Can the dryer's autosensing be turned off? Sometimes we don't want the dryer to stop when the clothes are dry.

Yes, you can also set it for a specific amount of time if you want
