What does it mean when water is dripping from the top into the tub? I opened my washer this morning to start laundry and there was 2-3 inches of water in the bottom of the tub and a steady drip,drip,drip...
My owner's manual doesn't say anything about it under troubleshooting. It's 11 years old if that matters and has been a GREAT washer.
Help!

We had one that did that. I'll try to explain how we fixed it, but I don't know the technical terms. ;)
There are the water hoses that run from the wall to the back of your washer. Where the hose attaches to your washer, their is usually a lttle screen and a rubber grommet. We cleaned the screen and replaced the little rubber grommet.
That fixed the problem for us. Good luck to you!

Thanks, DanDave! I'll go give it a try!:D

Yes! Do turn off the water first! That's a major part, that I'm sorry I left out.
You're welcome, and I hope it works! :D

Oh, now wouldn't that have been interesting? I decided to leave it until my dh gets home. I probably wouldn't have thought to turn off the water. :o

Hi, I'm a laundry equipment tech.

That won't fix it.
Cleaning the hose screens will help a washer that only gets a little amount of water or fills very slowly when it's running. Cleaning the hose screen lets water in faster. Changing the washer just stops water from leaking outside the washing machine, not into the basket.

If the washer is filling with water when it is off, as you describe, one of the water valves is leaking. Could be just something caught under the valve, or it could be just that the valve itself is worn out(more likely after 11 years) and is leaking a little. I'd recommend replacing the valve itself.

bananiem, I'm glad you didn't get soaked. I really am sorry about that. I always turn off the water and/or make sure the electricity is off before I attempt any fixits.

As I said, replacing the rubber grommet stopped ours from leaking into the tub, but I'm sure Mark knows a whole lot more than I do about it. I rely on "Home Improvement For Dummies". ;)

OK, Mark. Can you do a house call to Minnesota today?:D
Is this something a sorta-handy guy can fix or should I rely on a professional such as yourself?
