:( I think my washing machine died. So if anyone has input on the best brand, place to buy, front or top loading, HE or not, please share.

Love my lg steam front loader. It's the biggest capacity and washes comforters easily. I dry clean very little anymore. It does a great job with cashmere. I've had mine since 2009. They are on pedestals which I'm glad I got. Purchased as floor samples from HD.

Only had our LG HE front loader for a year, so far so good. Our first experience with a front loader. There is extra work with the filter than needs to be drained and cleaned once a month.
But with the kids grown and out of the house the work load is tiny now. When DS was playing high school baseball and DD soccer, we were doing 32 loads a week.

Had good luck with Whirlpool and Maytag in the past, although we did sent back a Maytag with some odd agitagor about 10 years ago. It was ripping our clothing.

Sorry to hear your machine died. I've had my GE Adora set for a couple years now and have been very happy with them.

I looked at consumer reports a little but we don't subscribe so I can only see limited info. It won't drain and smells of smoke when trying to drain. Spins and agitates fine. Checking with a guy who repairs for resale. I've been told that it is pre-1984 and that the parts may be almost impossible to find. We shall see.

I have owned 3 different front loaders (kenmore, maytag and now LG). I hated my kenmore and maytag and almost swore off front loaders. I bought the biggest LG there is and I love it! With a family if 5 I'm shocked at how much I can clean at one time. The clothes actually get clean and don't tie in knots like the Kenmore. The machine is quiet even on our 2nd floor. You barely know it's running.

ITA! We bought a newer model LG HE top loader earlier this year and love it so far! It has some kind of agitator that is supposed to keep things from getting unbalanced. It's so much quieter and doesn't seem to tangle stuff up as much as our old set. We are tall so top loaders are easier for us. We had a Whirlpool set that didn't even make it 8 years - it was repaired under warranty once and sounded like a jetliner the last year we used it.

We purchased an Electrolux front loader 5 years ago at Lowes. Have had zero issues! Love it

On my second LG front loader. We upgraded this time and got the steam wash cycle! Nothing but terrific things to say. The only reason we had to get a new one was b/c during out last move, the movers damaged the drum and it stopped working.

I have a Samsung set, both with the steam cycles. I have used them for almost a year, and so far, so good. :)

Make sure to read reviews once you start narrowing down not all washer and dryers of even the same brand are the same quality. Some company's have a cheap line. I have had a few issues with appliances by buying from there cheap line not knowing there was a difference.

We have an LG front loader set, very similar to the WM3250 set, maybe one model older but I can't find it anymore. It has the Sanitary, Allergiene, and Steam functions. We've had the set for a year and absolutely love it. We bought through Sears and got the extended warranty as well just to be on the safe side.

We have Samsung steam front load w/d and I love them. I could kick myself for not getting sooner. We are a family of four and I can do some serious laundry in a short amount of time. The clothes get cleaner than with old top loader and not all twisted and snarled.

We have had GE front loader for 7 years, and it works just fine. I personally don't like large capacity front loaders because they don't clean quite as well as smaller capacity machines. I have heard that some front loader had issues with mold, Whirlpool in particular. I always keep the door ajar on mine, and wipe excess water from the rubber ring.

Purchased an LG front load washer and dryer August 2013 and so far so good. Very pleased. Went with that because of all the good reviews.

We had a smallish LG front load that lasted about 7 years before the seal broke and we had mold issues. We've had a Maytag Maxima front load for about 1 1/2 years and so far I am loving it. It's HUGE, which is a big deal with boys who are always covered in dirt (even when they're inside on a rainy day :rotfl: ).

I don't even know what brand our dryer is. Our old one quit on us the day after my second was born...I was in the hospital recovering from a c-section, and my parents were due to arrive at any moment, so it was difficult and inconvenient to wait for a delivered dryer. I just told my husband to go to a local salvage non-profit (where we've bought bathroom tile, a set of french doors) to see if they had a decent dryer that would last us a few months. He paid $75. Close to eight years later, it's still working though it takes longer to dry the larger loads of clothes I wash with the Maytag.

Another LG lover here. I have the Steam version with low vibration which really helps. I didn't get risers BUT my washer dryer are on a raised platform in the basement because sometimes the floods and I'm happy it's set up that way - hated the risers with the top loader. You definitely have to get the HE detergent which does cost more. You do need to leave the door cracked or it will start to smell. If this happens I just fill all the cups with bleach and run it on hot with no clothes in it. I love having a delay start on my machine. I can set the machine at night, put it on a 6 hour delay and wake up in the morning with a load just ready to go in the dryer. I have a large capacity.

OTH - mom mom has an "HE" Whirlpool top loader - with auto fill levels, etc. She HATES it. It vibrates like crazy - like it walks across the floor by at least a foot every time. It has knocked the dryer over even. It's crazy. In addition, you have to put ALL your clothes in before it fills. If you forget something and open the lid to throw it in it fills all the way to the top even if you only have two or three things in there. Conversely if she puts sheets in and doesn't open the lid halfway thru the fill cycle it DOESN'T fill all the way to the top of the sheets (only adds about 6 inches of water) and the sheet on top will come out dry). All this means that she can't set it and forget it. She has to stay and watch the machine for the entire load - every load, can't really even go upstairs. BIG pain.
