Washed out?

Harvey is coming here to LA, so FL is in the clear. Rain shouldn't stop your fun, throw on a poncho & carry on.

I have gone many times during hurricane season, in fact I'm leaving in just over a week to Disney World. I've been lucky so far, maybe a few rain days but never a complete wash out. I always carry a cheap poncho and have the heavy duty one in the car or backpack. I wear runners but in the rain I prefer sandals that are similar to crocs but are slip resistant - very important in the parks as it can get slippery on the sidewalks. I wear the synthetic type shorts. I usually wear a baseball cap rain or shine so I don't bother too much with an umbrella but I will have one in case I need it. Easier to maneuver without one. I have learned that if it starts to pour to find a place to sit it out and relax.

We've been during Hurricane season several trips, one trip the Hurricanes were lined up bumper to bumper in the Atlantic but we still went. WDW was almost empty because everyone canceled their trips, it was wonderful, we walked on every ride "0" wait time. I am one that still wears Crocs (they have cuter styles than the Clogs) to the parks, I also have Teva's but prefer Crocs when wading through ankle high water because even the Teva's have fabric straps that rub on my feet (causing raw skin), plus Crocs dry so much better. Bring several Emergency Ponchos that you can purchase at Walmart, If they get super wet you can throw them away and not have to pack wet Ponchos around with you when it stops raining.

We are going the same dates as you and my AccuWeather app has me pretty happy so far lol. The forecast looks good as of now and even now, it is a bit early. Harvey isn't going anywhere near Florida, so no worries about that. We went the same week last year and we had a wonderful trip, even with a scare from Gaston before flying out. It only rained a couple of times all week and only once the rain lasted hours (on 9/4) and I stayed at MK until closing and had the best time by myself, while my family went back to the resort.. the park cleared out pretty good and it stopped around 10pm. Have a great trip!

I realize that it's probably not such a big deal for folks who go regularly and so a few rainy days aren't a big deal. This is the first time I've gone in 35 years, and I don't know if I'll ever get another chance (living on a single income in the DC area makes it nearly impossible to save this much, plus all my aging family lives 1,000 miles away so my travel almost always involves going there). You'll have to forgive me if I'm seeming to worry overmuch about it not being happy weather. :smickey: But I do appreciate the reassuring words. I'll roll with whatever happens.

Your background is exactly why people are telling you to just roll with it.

Floridians aren't going to go when it's nasty out. They can go any time.

But you, and me, with longer distances and airfare...you get yourself ready and you go and you make the most of it.

I've been here since Friday and the forecast showed 80-90% chance of rain for several of our days. Usually within 24 hrs, the % dropped down to 30%. We got a little wet last night at Disney Springs, but have avoided the rain the rest of the time. We considered cancelling our Keys to the kingdom tour on Saturday, but we didn't and it sprinkled just as we finished! You might be suprised that it's not that bad. Just remember your poncho or umbrella and have fun!!

Well, I ended up riding out Irma in my resort (flight was cancelled that Thursday early morning). There were some trees down but very little building damage that I could see, and I ended up coming away with some new "hurricane" friends. And now I have a story to tell. Still, it got a bit hairy overnight while listening to the stuff on the roof rattle.
