We are planning a long weekend trip to the DC area. I am wondering if there is a DVC (thru the exchange) hotel centrally located in this area. We will like to be real close to captiol, museums, etc. I tried thru the DVC member site, without luck! Any recommendations would really be appreciated! TIA :goodvibes

You'd need to look at the RCI exchanges, which can be linked through the DVC Member site, if there are none listed, then there is nothing you can exchange into. Best you could do is rent your points and use the cash to offset your room stay at another hotel.

Your only option is the Mandarin Oriental which is part of the Concierge Collection. Points start at 43 per night.

We stayed at the Mandarin Oriental 2 years ago. It is a beautiful hotel within walking distance of the mall. Didn't have many options for restaurants as everything in the hotel was $$$$$. We did stay on the "Tai pan" level which gave us access to the lounge for a very nice continental breakfast and afternoon snacks. My kids felt like it was too fancy for them. It was a point splurge but we enjoyed it.

We are planning the same. But we reserved at Holiday Inn (Rosslyn @ Key Bridge - Arlington, VA). Free complimentary hotel parking...note DC/nearby hotels charge $20-35 per night for parking. Free Internet. Free breakfast if you're Holiday Inn club members otherwise about $15 breakfast! One and half blocks from Metro subway station. Very cheap and quick to the Smithsonian subway station.

Thanks everyone for your replies. 43 points is a bit too much for me to sacrifice for DC;). I may consider Marriott as we have points and can look in to that, too!

Have you stayed at the Holiday Inn before? Our DS was married there and the guests all stayed there. If you are used to Disney type accomodations this is not the place for you. It is convenient to the metro though. Arlington is a business community (DS lives there) and there are not alot of options for dining in the immediate area. If you have a car drive 2-3 miles west you'll find more dining places. Cheesecake Factory, Harry's restaurant (excellent) and several others. Have a great time.

:) We stayed about 4 of blocks from the white house in 2008. You have to go to Legal Seafood...wonderful. Todd English(I think) has Olives a couple of blocks from the white house...great cocktails and, of course, olives.

We stayed at the JW Marriott on Pennsylvania Ave in 2009. I found a really cheap weekend rate and didn't mind paying for the parking. Total was under $150/night. Very nice room. We were able to walk everywhere, only a couple of blocks from the White House. Don't forget to write to your Senator to request a tour.
