Was your Thanksgiving like this?

I think there was a total of 30 people at our house and of course it had to rain all day..:( .
But the shocking thing was everyone was gone by 7:30..:earseek: ..and Amanda hit the sack at 8...
Had to get up early today and hit the Black Friday sales...
She said she got all the stuff that some other people couldn't get and she was worried about people taking stuff out of her cart..:earseek: ..Not good...Amanda's only 5 foot but very fiesty...(okay sorry to jump off subject)..

My DD brought a 'New" addition to the Family, my Granddaughter!;) She thought she would be able to make mashed Potatoes and actually EAT, but Aiyana had something else in mind!:o I had to feed my DD while SHE was feeding Aiyana! ;) Good time had by all!;)

We've had some rough years in my family, mostly due to my failed marriage  , but since my niece was born two years ago, we've started to mend (finally!) and my SIL and I will be alternating every year. This year was my turn (since I have my kids this year) It was really fun and wonderful! My niece is just a delight!

Hope yours was wonderful too Dan!

Ours was less than traditional. I dined with two elderly (don't tell them that) Aunts at a restaurant/club on the campus of a local Prep School (the one Pres. Bush attended). We ate a traditional meal of turkey and all the fixings.

During the meal, one Aunt looks around the room and says "all these people look like WASP's!" I'm only surprized that she didn't add "filthy rich" to her comment. OMG

When we finished the meal and the bill came this same Aunt not only suggested a $4 tip (each) on a $36+ meal but declared that she didn't have her credit card (after she said she'd pay). So, the Manager had to come over at her request since they had her CC# on file to hold the reservation. I got the appropriate tip ready for the waitress while this transaction proceeded. Are bill got paid and we left. We dropped the nasty Aunt off and her last comment of the evening was to call me stupid. Whatever.

Then I went visiting with the other Aunt. First stop was a friend of my Aunt's. They had the usual family photo albums and chit chat going. Next stop was at a cousin's home. There it was just endless talk about teaching issues and DOOL. :faint: These relatives don't discuss much else but those subjects. Even one of the younger cousins asked me at one point if his Mom was still talking about school. We used to be a family of all teachers but now we have a pre-law student, a business school student, a salesman, a scientist (me) and assorted others. The conversations could be a lot more interesting for everyone but discussions still center around curriculums and administration issues. It does clear the table however.

Big meal and chance to visit with some folks I don't get to see often.Made sure all left with leftovers or we would be eating them until Christmas.:wave2:

Before we left, I decided to have a beer. When we got there, I decided to have three more. By the time we ate, I was very happy ;) .
Same circus, a couple new freaks (new bf's/fiance's, gf's, etc). When you are feeling good , it all appears better!
It's over!!! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

How was your day, 'traditional' or 'different'?

My brother summed it up best.......'dinner at dysfunction junction'
Basically toss some booze at people who may or may not have drinking problems and see what happens. Add to that mix a 4 year old girl with an attitude, affectionately known as 'mini-beast'
Lucky for me I had to work at 5 this morning, so we were able to escape not long after dinner so i could get to bed.

Same circus, a couple new freaks

ROFL! Love how you phrased that. :teeth:

And I agree, a nip of the spirits make it easier to bear. There were many bottles of wine consumed yesterday - everyone needed to take the edge off the excitement of the tightrope at the circus, so to speak. :p

Un-traditional - since I had to work today and Wednesday, there was no chance of going home to NJ. So it was just DH, me, my boss and the cats. Luckily, Wedge and Tycho willing shared a chair so my boss could have the fourth one. Yes, they had their own plate and ate their turkey nicely.

snoopy and Bethany this was our Thanksgiving every year growing up. Thanks for the laughs! And the tradition continues with Chris family. Although this year was a bit calmer even though MIL has been working my nerves lately. Nothing that a little wine couldn't fix! :hyper: - Anyway since we told Chris' X SIL that she was not allowed up on any more holidays - it's been pretty quiet LOL!

normal,maybe too normal

most everyone watched football but I was watching American Idol Christmas and other video tapes on the vcr in the guest room eating from a card table

Dan, I like the idea of decorating for Christmas after dinner. That sounds really cool.

Lewski, you cracked me up::yes::

Our Thanksgiving was pretty traditional. There were supposed to be 10 of us, ended up with 12. My SILs sister and her husband came for the first time, and heres to hoping it's her last. After they left, I told my SIL that I'm glad she's my SIL and not her sister. My DS said, "She is the bossiest person I have ever met." We had all the food out on the table, and then go into the living room to find a seat. She sat her butt AT the table, started digging in before anyone was even in the kitchen yet, and took the whole leg (it was a big leg) for herself. My DH WAS going to cut meat off of it so everyone could have some dark me. But NOOO. She had different ideas. The walk we took after dinner was too short. We watched Bruce Almighty and she asked us what we were all laughing at. The coffee was too strong. Jeeesh. Go away:rolleyes: That was about when I started with the Captain Morgan and Cokes::yes::

Actually, we had a very nice day. My parents, my DB/DSIL,their son, My DSIL/DBIL and their choildren, my parents. 13 total. Laughter, fun, stuffed-ness, no arguing.

Thursday morning I drove a few hundred miles to Brewster MA to see my sister. I took the scenic route and did 6A up to Brewster from Sandwich. The bogs were beautiful. I love to be at Cape Cod. After roughing each other up at my sister's house, we went to Truro for dinner at an old Inn. The food was surprisingly good and lots of it
Pic of my plate, which I still have at least 3/4 of in my freezer:

The Inn was really neat I'd say several hundred years old. With lots of fireplaces and period decorations.
Group shot. From left to right counter clockwise. Leala, my daughter, near window, me, my sister and her baby, my mom and my aunt:

We drove up to P-Town and caught a few sights, the place was hopping, even on Thanksgiving.
Pic of Pilgrim's Monument all lit up:

Today I hung out with the baby. Here I am teaching him how to sing:

Then on our way home we stopped at First encounter Beach, where the Mayflower stopped before Plymouth. Sorry no pics.

It was a lot of driving, but a fun time. To sum it up, I'd have to say Rockwell with a Dali Flair to it (-:

Ours was pretty normal except for me being rather loopy on my back pain meds!!

Well, we have gone through some tough things with my son lately and this is the first time ever that my Mom did NOT cook. My sister and her family stayed home. So, my DS played a video game all day, while Mom, Dad and I did things that needed to get done. It was kind of strange not to have the usual or to get to see my sister and her family. I sure hope we do not have another Thanksgiving like this.

Ours was quiet - just the 4 of us and 1 big turkey! Extended family - while definitely disfunctional (I'm pretty sure that's a requirement :p ) - just too far away to gather. Gave thanks for all that we have. Hope yours was good Dan - thanks for the thread
