DH and I are going to DLR in August for a week. Yesterday we mentioned to our landlord that we would be leaving on vacation, and obviously he asked where we were heading.

As soon as we said Disneyland, he started in with the usual "non Disney lover" comments: How old are you two again? Why go there you don't have kids?, You don't actually go on the kids rides do you????

Now I understand that some people just "don't get it" and I'm OK with that.....but why do these people feel the need, much less assume they have the right to question our vacation choices?

Our landlord has been incredibly rude to us on several occasions, and in general I try to avoid him at all costs {love the apt, and the price but not him as a person} So we're not moving because we like the location etc.....but it just shocked me how rude he was again and I needed to vent....thanks!:)

I know you guys will understand!:wizard:

YUP - I've gotten the "You can go to Disney without kids?" question a few times myself. People who have to ask have never been and will never know why we all love to go and keep going back. Where else can you something for everyone of every age....

I honestly did not even read further than "you got a comment from a non disney person" :lmao:

Used to DRIVE me nuts, no more. I figure ONE less person on my ride line, :lmao:

Meanwhile, I have a SIL who I love that always used to make comments...till she again headed to the beach house this summer and I said, Gee you really love it and she responded with I HAVE to go or its not summer! Well, took that opportunity to say, GEE we're alike, its how I feel returning HOME to DIsney each yeah...she SMILED and said, yeah I get it!
Maybe she does, maybe not.....but Like I said....I could care less...:rotfl2:

That's so true about people who just don't get it. They come in all shapes and sizes and then get defensive if you question why they go to their favorite vacation spot every year (beach, Vegas, etc.). I used to argue my point, but have mellowed and just smile and shake my head in apathy. Look at it as the more people who don't go to a Disney destination, the less crowded it is for us devotees.

I always loved disnyland and can't wait to go to WDW, everyone in my family has gone but me and for sure our family will be going to when hubby gets back (yes he will be heading out ) .

You don't even have to be old to get comments - I had a Make a Wish trip at 15 and I went to Disneyland. A lot of people kept asking why so I just said we went to California from then on. We did do Hollywood and USH but most of it was DLR.

Even MAW wanted to know why I wanted to go to DLR! They tried to persaude me to go to WDW, but I've been there 10+ times and it's routine.

I get that comment from people .. and I am in high school!

I don't pay them any mind because I have DISNEY-ADDICT written all over me.
Disney purse, disney in my locker, etc..

Some people are just like that. If it's something they do not like themselves, then it must be wrong. :sad2:
Just look at it as his loss, and enjoy your trip to DLR! ;)

We took DD at 2 1/2, and I was getting sick of people telling me how dumb it was because she wouldn't remember, she'd be miserable, it's too hot, she needs rest, blah blah blah. She had a blast. She only got fussy once all week.

When we got home, she sobbed for over an hour. She asks when we can go back all the time. Every plane that goes over our house is going to Disney World. (Apparently Mickey is on the plane, because she waves at the sky and shouts "Hi Mickey!) ::MickeyMo

We're going back October 2010, and people are already making comments because we just went last year. What's wrong with 2 years between trips? I just don't get it. I have no desire to go to Las Vegas, but I don't make fun of people who do. :confused3

I'm with you lilybrooke...I don't have a desire to go to Vegas, plenty people do...I don't see the desire! But I'm not going to make fun of the people in my life who go every year!

People need to learn tact :snooty:

I always ask them where they go for each annual trip. They often all go to the same place, then I just look at them and say, wow, that would be SO boring for me, or how can you stand to go to the same place every year that doesn't have rides?

:thumbsup2

Or, I just tell them something that would get me DisPoints.

I am already getting that from people about taking my grandbaby and she is only a few weeks old! Everyone knows how much I love disney and how often we go; so of course their first question was "when are you taking her to Disney?" They ask the question, then when I tell them "probably when she is around two" --I get "oh, no! she won't remember it! You need to wait until she is five or six." Why ask me if they are just going to turn around and tell me when I should take her? :confused3

I will never understand that line of reasoning - that a child must be "old enough to remember." Are you just not supposed to take any vacations until your kids reach some magical age of permament memory? Or just not any GOOD ones - LOL?

I don't remember what I had for lunch last Tuesday. Apparently it was a waste of money for me to eat it. ;)

imabrat - I am shocked that people gave you grief over what you chose for your MAW trip! The run-of-the-mill "omg, why would you want to go THERE?" is bad enough for adults to endure, but for a sick child? Sheesh. :sad2:

I get that ALOT especially from my dad.

So, this year is my birthday celebration to Disneyland (ticker people) and I noticed Dad told me he hasn't gone in years, actually 20 years. So I invited him to come along with me. For all of his complaints, he is more excited then I am!

I think its jealousy issues with the others.

I take a lot of cruise vacations and I get the same kinds of comments from people. What are you going to do on a boat for 7 days? Won't it get boring just going to the buffet? Why would you want to go somewhere where nobody could get to you in an emergency?

I think sometimes it's jealousy and sometimes people that just don't know because they've never been on the type of trip you are going on. Ignore them and have a good time.

And hey, that's one less person that will invade your vacation destination :thumbsup2

Maybe I'm just lucky, but I rarely, if ever, get those comments. Everyone I know and deal with know I love WDW and know that it's not just for kids. In fact, many in my circles believe it is more fun without kids and is a great place for grown-up 'kids'.

And besides, I LOVE people who don't 'get it'. They're not standing in line in front of me for rides or tripping me up on Main Street USA.

Oh yeah. Some of the kids from school wondered why I went there, but at that point I just said "Oh, I went to California this summer". Some people said "Well, isn't that a lot of walking?". I was in a wheelchair at the time and couldn't walk! I just wanted to say "I CAN'T WALK!!". Even Make A Wish had me write a detailed letter as to exactly why I wanted to go to Disneyland and not WDW. They wanted get out of paying for everything and wanted to put me in Give Kids The World. I said no way, I've been to WDW 10+ times, and I've always wanted to go to California anyway.

YA! Just like those goofy people who like to go camping. Oh wait, I am one of those....

Mikeeee

Ditto on that, Sonya. But I got it when I was 11! D:

Ah, well. Some people just don't appreciate the joy that is Disney. Their loss.
