Was NOT happy with Pop Century

Well that certainly explains all the adults yelling form poolside to the bar back and forth, the kids running up and down the ailes of the buildings, yelling from bulding to building, and just basically being obnoxious- it's because there are more rooms. Thanks for solving the mystery for me scooby. There are a lot of kids at the YC / BC pool, and there is also a bar, still 100x more relaxing than the ASSp we stayed at. And it wasn't even the noise level that was the big issue, it was the poor service from the employees and the lack of places other than the pool or food court to relax, at least for us. But hey to each his own. Can we stop debating this now? Or is someone else going to point out something blaringly obvious? :confused3 Why every person who doesn't like values is attacked for having their own opinion is crazy- there are different levels for this reason- everyone has their own idea of what's important.

Scooby here. I don't care for the values either. but I'm not making across the board statements that have no merit. I've seen equally boorish behaviour in the deluxes, including kids sticking their fingers in food, or worse yet dropping something on the floor then putting it back onto the serving plate at the Polynesian CL level, kids dive bombing into the hot tub at the GF, and a drunken topless women in the spa at the AKL. How about the kids playing soccer in the hallway at the Polynesian CL at 11:00pm with no parent in sight? Trust me, I've taken a lot more trips to WDW than you have, 90% of them in a deluxe resort and 90% of those CL. I've seen every level of behaviour from the best to the worst. If you think that deluxe resorts are exempt, you either need to open your eyes, or you've just been lucky--so far.

Wow, that's amazing, only well behaved children at YC. I'll have to tell my husband from now on, no more value resorts for us. That extra $2,000.00 it will add on to our trip will be totally worth it not to have to be around those wild misbehaving value resort kids anymore.
That’s funny. I thought you were going to say it’d be worth the extra $2,000.00 to have your own kids be instantly and automatically well-behaved based solely on your choice of resort! (and, if I’ve hit a sensitive spot, PLEASE accept my apology in advance!)

Nope, lemons-and-lemonade aside, it’s not the OP’s fault at all that she didn’t enjoy Pop Century. It is the OP’s “fault” that she reserved and stayed there based solely on unfounded and unresearched assumptions.
Connecting rooms are a request, not a guarantee; if the resort is full, it’s full – no Guest already in a room is going to be displaced to give new Guests connecting rooms.
“Thinking” a preferred room meant it would come with a refrigerator indicates the OP’s assumption was based nothing BUT an assumption – certainly not any research of what ‘preferred’ means in regards to a Value resort room. Ditto for facing the pool – most often, that’s what a preferred room is, and just asking whomever had booked her trip would have provided these two pieces of information – as would posting here. I mean, we DO know everything ;)
The beds are only fulls? Same thing. Ask a question, “What size are the beds?”
Research. Even just a little. "What does Preferred mean?" "How big are the beds?" "Can we get connecting rooms?"

Also, to the person who said maybe Disney should have built more connecting rooms? 25% of the rooms at Pop and Movies connect to another room - but some of those rooms are handicap-accessible. Now, a Guest may not NEED a connecting room but MAY need a roll-in shower. You put that Guest in one of the two connecting rooms, then you can't put a larger party in the two rooms.

No one said you couldn't have an opinion about the resorts. I have stayed at a number of the WDW resorts, value and deluxe, and haven't had a bad experience at any of them. You're being responded to because of the ludicrous statement that you made about, just as many kids being at the YC as at POP and that only children at a value resort run amuck and cause chaos. When you state a blanket opinion like that, do you actually think no one on this board is going to have a differing opinion than yours? There boards are for sharing different opinons and if the OP didn't want anyone else's opinions, she shouldn't have asked.

I stated my experince, and even though it's not popular, it's still my experince- also my husbands. We have 3 children, BTW, so it's not a matter of not liking children, or not wanting them to have fun.

Many hotels, even the basic chain hotels,
But few, if any, of those operate over 26,000 rooms out of a single cost center.

Seriously- why I allow myself to get drawn into these debates is beyond me! It's like taking crazy pills.
WAY cheaper. No withdrawal symptoms. Socially acceptable. Stick around :)

It's also limited experience. Like I said, don't think that rotten kids and moron parents don't stay at the deluxe resorts as well, because they absolutely do.

See- you aren't allowed to share your experince without someone acting like you can't. I relayed my experience if that's not yours, well we clearly have different standards and expectations. I stayed at a value, and ran back to deluxe. You may prefer the value - all the power too you, but my time there was awful and I won't go back. I spent 3 hours at the Yacht Club my last trip and it was like a slice of heaven. :cloud9: - the OP had a bad time at the POP and shared it, and some people just can't accept it, it must be her fault that she didn't enjoy it, there is something wrong with her- well there isn't. Values are hotels, mods and deluxes are RESORTS. If I want Holiday Inn, I'll stay Holiday Inn, if not, I'm allowed.

I've read through this entire thread, and I really don't think that the issue isn't that she didn't like PoP. Of course everyone is entitled to their opinions. I love PoP but I can see that their are lots of valid reasons not to like PoP.

But I think that the reason the OP is getting flack is because half of her complaints were things that were readily available right here on this site. How is it that someone savvy enough to find this site isn't aware that "preferred" at a value doesn't include a fridge? That's really the part that gets people up in arms.

PoP is what it is. It's not for everyone, but anyone reading this site should know the basics about what the hotel does and doesn't offer.

We're locals and used to stay at the POP about once a month. I never really cared for it that much. To me it looks like a Days Inn with a bunch of stuff stuck on it. Also I've always thought the CMs were mostly lacking the Disney magic. We only stayed there on weekends.

Now that the resorts are non-smoking and they are raising rates on weekend stays we've moved to the Ramada Inn Westgate. The rooms and beds are bigger and it's only 35 if you book in advance. We drive to the parks just as quickly as if we were on property. If you're only looking for a place to sleep, check there :)

As I have said before, my family LOVE POP...We have stayed at a moderate before, and for the extra money we didnt find that much of a difference. To us it is a place to swim, sleep and grab a quick bite if needed. Never had any problems with CM's, noise or anything of the sort. Rooms were always clean.
Sorry that everyone is unhappy there, we love it!

Couldn't have said it better myself, Scooby. You hit the nail on the head!

I'm glad somebody found me funny today! lol And by the way we might just actually pay that extra $2,000.00 to the resort that promised instant and automatic good behavior for children staying there. Why hasn't Disney already created a resort like that? Surely there's some magical chemical they could put in the pool water. They could make a fortune! lol

My family stayed there last week. We thought we would get a budget trip in. Normally we stay at WL or Poly. I really did not have a problem with the hotel. In some cases the rooms where loud, but nothing more than a normal hotel. The problem we had was with the other guests because it was like a zoo. Everyone was just pushy, I haven't seen WDW this way in a long time.

This was our first time at the POP we decided to give it a try after we had a group meet there in January. I would rather have the bigger bed, but it wasn't a problem. The room was clean and so was the hotel. The staff was ok, but I think they where a little overwhelmed with the people.

The only complaint is the slushy machine if they are going to have it I think they need to monitor it. Once it was frozen it was like a mob trying to get any.
