Was live now great memories from the 9/21 DVC Member Cruise!

Sorry I missed the send off, but sounds like you are having an amazing time! Your posts are awesome! I soooo wish I was there this year. :sad1: Those add-on incentives are absolutely awesome! It makes me wonder if the incentives on next years sailing will be anywhere near as great since BLT will have been open a whole year. Have they been this good in the past?

Did I read you right? Next years member cruise date 9/13/09?!!? DH told me we could only go if it was close to our anniversary (our 10th!). Guess what.....our anni is 9/11 so right on the money!!!! When will they open up the booking?

Just curious if many families/children go on the members cruise since it is scheduled so close to the start of school. While I have taken my kids out of school later in the year, I am not sure how they would do missing at the start of the year. Sure would love to go on a member's cruise though!

We just became DVC members this year and I had no idea that there was a special Members Only cruise! :upsidedow I love reading your reports and seeing your pics - it's making me miss the Magic!

Enjoy your WONDERful cruise. :goodvibes

Greetings all! Sorry we haven’t posted in a while but we’ve been enjoying all the cruise has to offer.

After the DVC presentation yesterday we relaxed a bit on the ship before heading off to Castaway Cay. We had one main goal in mind for the day; our couples cabana massage at 1 pm. So when we got off the ship we took a leisurely walk to cookies which was just about to open. Found a nice quiet table in the shade and relaxed with some cold drinks. Mark went and got his lunch and then I got mine. On the way back I found that Mark had found Mike and Robin who joined us for lunch.

After lunch Mark and I took the tram over the adult beach and settled in by the cabana’s awaiting our 1 pm couples massage. This was truly heaven on earth. We both really enjoyed it. Having done the couples massage on the ship I really prefer the one on the island. Yes you are giving up some island time but having the massage done in the fresh air and with the sounds of the water was wonderful.

We then headed back to the ship as I wanted to attend the 3pm DVC presentation of Inspirations from the World of Sports. This segment was hosted by ESPN’s Linda Cohn who sat down with Vince Papale, the inspiration behind the football movie Invincible and Patrick Henry Hughes who is a marching band sensation at the University of Louisville. Both men had incredible stories of beating the odds given them in life. A really good show.

Before I knew it the time had almost come for dinner. It is pirate night and we were ready to be pirates in Triton’s. Pirate night is Mark’s favorite in the dining room and is always a good time. After dinner a number of DISers met for what has become an annual tradition of a group photo on the steps outside Triton’s. Thanks to Linda (seaulater) for setting this up. We had a great group and we were joined by Pirate Captain Mickey!

Next up was the new show Toy Story the Musical. Great sets and a fun show but not one I’d see us going back to time and time again.

After that I’m afraid I was ready for bed. No pirate party for us. I didn’t even make it to viewing the fireworks from our verandah. 

This morning I slept in and boy did that feel good. Went upstairs for a light breakfast (we had Palo Brunch at 11:30) then made myself a cup of tea and headed over to the adult pool to read. I met up with Joanne and we had a nice chat and discussed how the cruise was going. I left her about 8:30 to see if Mark wanted to join me at the Ducky Williams presentation. He opted to sleep in a little longer so off I went to Wavebands to see Ducky. I was joined by Cheryl and Todd and there were a number of other DISers in attendance as well. Ducky, as usual, did a great presentation. Sadly I didn’t win one of his sketches, but I love watching him draw and always enjoy his story.

Next up was brunch. We were eating with our dinner companions Mary, Karen, Robin and Mike. There were many other DIS couples up at Palo including a large group in the private room. They looked to be having a great time. The pancake sisters even got together for a picture! This is what happens when Mark puts a smilie in the thread of a bunny with a pancake on his head and then a bunch of us get into chat.

We opted to skip the Castaway Club party as it started while we were still at lunch. We then headed down to the Walt Disney Theatre for a Shorts Festival At Sea showcasing 4 Disney shorts. Destino was started in 1945 and had Walt Disney joining forces with Salvador Dali. Glago’s Guest will be making its debut later this year before the movie Bolt but we got a special advance screening. Lorenzo is a 2004 Academy Award nominated short. Last but not least is One by One an unreleased short inspired by a freedom song written and performed by Lebo M for the Lion King. This was definitely a first for us.

Lot’s more still to come!

Everything sounds great, but the screening of the "infomercial" on DVC. It bored me in small size... Kind of Scary on a BIG SCREEN LOL!

Glad I'm not the only one that thought that was a total full on DVC produced informercial. :lmao:

It's OFFICIAL!!!

That's all for right now, Will be posting some more tomorrow when we get back onboard after our second day at CC with the group photo!

Wow, sounds like you are having the time of your life!! Good for you! I saw ABC's Extreme Home Makeover show of the Hughes Family. I had it recorded on our DVR for quite some time because it was so inspiring and uplifting!!! I think he is awesome and so is his family. I hope they are also having the time of their lives!!!!!!

Primative attempts to treat Addonitis left side effects that were often worse than the disease itself. :scared1:

What fun sailing vicariously with you on this thread. Darn that teaching hubby! I'm really enjoying the pictures and info. Thanks for sharing :goodvibes

Wonder back home at Port Canaveral, 2008 DVC Members Cruise comes to an end.

Awesomeness, thanks Andy! :thumbsup2

We're safely ensconced in Boardwalk, will put up a wrap up report a little later on, we ran out of the big package of minutes on board, oops.

The last night with the Broadway group was fantastic. :)

The balance of the gifts were this very nice figurine/snow globe combo, a few more pins, and a very cool themed shadowbox to display the pins in. :)

Thanks so much for taking the time from your vacation. It was fun to follow along with you!

Did anyone notice that in the last pin we received, it shows a picture of BLT on Mickey's drawing board??

I thought that was neat. We are so glad we brought 2 extra bags because Hokey pete, the gifts were big!!

How did the farewell thing on Wed night go? We went to bed early because I was sleepy and I came down with a nice head cold. :(

Hi Everybody!

Trixie Pancake reporting live from dreary, rainy NJ. Hope you guys who are still at WDW are having great weather!

Thanks to Mary for colluding with my co-workers! Thanks to the live thread, not only were they able to view the pictures online, they actually held a photo caption contest for the above picture:

1) At least this pancake won't go straight to my hips!
2) Fr. Frank employes a new punishment for those who snickered during the 'Arrrgh Father'.
3) Oolong the Performance Bunny strikes again!
4) The latest cruisewear - pancakes a la tete.
5) Although allowed by the Vatican, pancake coverings are frowned on during the Pirate Mass.
6) Weight Watchers new reminder to not overeat during your cruise!
7) Does this pancake make me look fat?

Wow, Mandy, good catch! I didn't notice that. I'm also glad that people warned me about all the swag, so I brought a collapsible suitcase, which made packing much easier.

As Mark said we are back home at the Boardwalk after a wonderful cruise. Still have a few days to finish up on the report so let’s get that out of the way.

Tuesday night was back in Triton’s for the regular rotation dinner. This evening’s show was Disney Dreams which while great we’ve seen many times. So we opted instead for a screening of Wall*E. Before heading to the show however the girls at our dining table (me, Mary, Karen and Robin) all went off to play Bingo. Robin had been telling us about the new Bingo bots and we wanted to try them. We had fun but none of us won.

After the show I was hoping to be able to go up on deck for the 10 pm screening of Sleeping Beauty in HD on the Dumbotron with an into from one of the Imagineers. Unfortunately I was just too beat so off to sleep I went. Our inroom gift this night was.. interesting, still don’t know if it has any purpose beyond just being there. They’re very much too small to wear as hats, except for maybe infants.

Wednesday brought us back to Castaway Cay. The skies were looking a little dark as we headed into the dock and we were surprised to find we went pulling in as we usually do on picture day. We thought it was because of current weather but found out later it was due to debris in the channel that needs to be dredged due to past storms going through. We headed up for breakfast where we were joined by Robin and made out plans for the day. First up was the group picture on the boat beach. These are a Member Cruise tradition and we always like to be a part of it. We got to chat with a number of the cast members while waiting and got to see Matt who handles all this from the DCL side. Hi Matt! :wave2:
36347group1.jpg

A light sprinkle happened while we were waiting but it actually cooled us off a bit! Group picture taken it is off to the beach! We had packed the snorkel gear and were going to head over to the adult beach but this being a Member Cruise with more adults than kids that didn’t seem like such a great idea. The line for the tram was long so we changed plans and went to the far end of the adult beach. Found a nice spot and set up under an umbrella. We were soon joined by Mary and Karen who grabbed the spot next to us. Mark set up to relax and read while us ladies heading into the water with our chairs. I then saw a bunch of other DISers further down so went to say /hi to them as well. What could be better than sitting around in the water chatting with new friends? Not much except for maybe a visit by Captain Jack Sparrow!
36347jack.jpg

After a while I left them to dry off before lunch. At lunch we met up with Frank and Kathy and had an enjoyable time chatting with them. Then back to the ship for a shower and to start packing. This afternoon was jam packed as there was an Imagineers session that was fantastic, then another round of bingo. Dinner tonight was in Animator’s but without Robin and Mike who were in Palo. Final round of bingo was after that where sadly we didn’t win.

Then it was to the final show of the cruise, always a special treat. Tonight was no exception. It was the leading ladies of Broadway. Kissy Simmons who plays Nala in The Lion King, Sierra Boggess who plays Ariel in The Little Mermaid, and Ashley Brown who plays the title role in Mary Poppins entertained us with 14 musical numbers! Fantastic! (the photochopping is me - took two shots and both had bad flash reflections, best I could do - Mark)

Now comes the sad part – finish packing and putting out the luggage. Oh wait – now we have to find room for shadow boxes for the pins we’ve gotten. Yikes!
36347swag071.jpg

After putting out the luggage Mark relaxed back in the room while I went to the Cruise Staff Happy Hour and their final night skit. Always great fun and I loved watching the faces of those who had never seen it before.

Wednesday night we hit some weather coming home and we were rocking and rolling all night long. We arrived safely back in Port Canaveral and were off the ship about 7:20. By 9 am we were checked in to the Boardwalk and by 10 am shopping at Downtown Disney.

We spent the afternoon with good friends of ours who just moved down. We got to see the site of their new home and also checked out their rental for the next 6 months. After a fun dinner at Trails End we headed back to the Boardwalk.

Today the plan is to reorganize all the luggage and then meet up with our friends Karen and Mike for Food and Wine.

What fun! Your trip report is so great. Makes me want to book for next year and call my hubby in sick from the port. The goodies look very nice. If you had two little dogs I'm thinking the hats would fit them :)
