My mom was a SAHM until my youngest brother was in 1st grade. My older brother was in the 7th grade while my twin sister and I were in the 4th grade so she waited until we all went to school.

She was always enterprising, though, and was a WAHM before she found a job outside of the home like how I am doing now :) . She would clean people's homes, iron for them, and any type of odd job to make money. Then she started out as a recess attendant at our school and then built up her career.

I think being a working mom was great for her and us. I think all 4 of us drove her crazy. Every summer we would also spend with our grandmother on another island. Love you mom!

What does LPN stand for in nursing terms?
Ditto, Bob...weird. Only differences are that my mom's an LPN and I'M the sister to a brother. lol

She worked full time until a 85 pound old woman made her slip a disk and has been on disability ever since. She still works part time in an office though.

When I was very young my mother worked as a telephone operator for one of the utility companies because my father was out on disability for a few years. When he was able to go back to work, my mother "retired".

I voted "other" because of that, but basically I consider my mother to have been a SAHM because most of my childhood memories are from when she was home. I was 8 years old when she "retired". LOL Also, while my mother did work when I was very young, she worked the night shift so she was home during the day with us. From my perspective as a young child, it really didn't feel like she was out of the house much, although it was probably a lot work for her during that time period.
