With the beard & the hat....

I got to thinking about this on our trip...

Where'd you travel to? Just curious. I grew up in "Amish country." In fact, my FIL was Amish until he was about 14 years old.

At any rate, Amish and government don't mix much. ;)

I edited my post...lol..
We just got back from California...
I seen what looked like some Amish people and he had a beard, hat and was dressed in black....Guess it coulda been Johnny Cash people...:jester:

California, eh?

I was unaware CA was teeming with anabaptist separatists.

You sure it wasn't this fella you saw?

It's possible that the guy you saw was not Amish, but rather a conservative Mennonite.

Doesn't matter, really. I was just curious. :p

Actually, I know for a fact! I am related to Abraham Lincoln, and have studied our family tree. One of the first Hanks' (this is my madien name) was a Quaker, and was known as "William the Quaker." As you may know, Abraham's mother's madien name was Hanks as well.

The family eventually moved to Kentucky, and then on to Illinois!

And, that is our history lesson for today! :teeth:

They said it is believed that Abraham Lincoln had Marfan's Syndrome, just curious, does anyone in your family have Marfan's syndrome? Its genetic and its suppose to run down the generations.

According to the Presidential Fact Book by Joseph Nathan Kane Lincoln had "no specific denomination."

Actually, I believe my father may have had it! It hasn't been confirmed, he passed away suddenly 15 years ago of a heart attack. I have done quite a bit of research on Marfan Syndrome (actually did my thesis on this in college), and it appears that it is quite possible that it could have been what happened to my dad. I was part of the Marfan Society for a long time as well.
He very much resembled Abraham Lincoln. He was very tall, slim, had long arms and legs, and looked like him, too.

Heart attacks are very common with people that have Marfan Syndrome, due to the connective tissue issues that arise.

And he did live in a log cabin. The Amish do excellent woodwork.:D

Yes, I know, my sister died of it, but her case was not genetic. I am just curious in my never ending quest for info and especially since you did your thesis on it, the national headquarters in in my neck of the woods, but do any of your relatives, that would be like 1st or 2nd cousins have any symptons that are not totally marfans, this would be like flat feet, arched palate, lack or less or cartlidge in knee joints, or chest pectus. Thanks so much. You can pm if you want.
