DS 18 has a wart on the back of his hand. I have an appointment with a dermatologist on Tues to have it frozen off. Our co pay is about $15 but we may need a second visit and I KNOW we will be in the waiting room a long time. On the other hand there are wart removal products that use a similar freezing method, although probably not as cold as the liquid nitrogen for about the same cost as my co pay and it provides for multiple applications. Has anyone used this??

I was just looking for wart removal products at CVS the other day. They wanted about $25 to $30 for a freeze system. I bought the old fashioned kind for about $6. Haven't used it yet but have used them in the past. Worked ok then. Let us know how it works if you get the store bought kind.

My DS suffered with horrible warts on his hand and MD said it was all caused by a VIRUS. We had them all removed by LASER treatment at UMASS MED CTR in Worcester. They took possibly about 2-3 treatments. THAT WAS IT!!!

Let me tell you I tried every over the counter treatments and NOTHING worked. The LASER was fabulous.

OP: Don't waste all your money trying all that stuff...go to your appt. and see if MAY BE POSSIBLY your DS will only need ONE treatment.

GOOD LUCK!!

I have used it before. We got some name brand stuff in a can I think it cost around fifteen dollars. I have several warts on my knee(I am 16 btw) and it made them smaller but it takes a couple treatments sometimes to get the wart off. I had a friend(17) who had one on her finger so she used the wart remover and it took it off. It does kinda hurt though, especially if you are not expecting it..

Just wanted to add that warts suck!

We tried tht cold wart removal stuff on DD when she had several plantar (foot) warts. Didn't touch them. Finally I took her to the dermotologist. A large one was frozen and has never come back--1 treatment. The other one was 'painted" with something, which removed teh top layer--to reveal about 6-8 small warts underneath. No wonder we were having such a difficult time! It took several visits to get them completely taken care of, but we did it and she was able to dance her recital with no painful warts. Now she has beautiful feet and loves to show off her painted nails. It was well worth the investment, IMO

It all depends on what kind of wart it is. I have a small recurring wart on my index finger on my left hand. It appears about every 2 years or so, and one or two doses with an OTC wart remover gets it off in a week and I go on for another couple years without it. On the other hand, as a child I had a seed wart under my nose, and it took several trips to the dermatologist and a prescribed at-home treatment to get it removed. There are tons of different kinds of warts, and some kinds don't respond to OTC treatments as PP's have said.

We tried the OTC freezing products on DD's hands. It did not work. I tried it over and over again and it did not even shrink the warts. I would keep the appointment with the dermatologist and let the doctor do his or her magic for the same price.

I've wasted $20 on the OTC stuff for DD's warts - did absolutely nothing. Before I took her to a doctor, I decided to try a method someone suggested here on one of the wart threads. Shave off a layer of dead skin with an emery board then apply a layer of clear nail polish. Do this every day. I doubted that this would work, but it did. It took about six weeks, but the wart is gone and hasn't come back.

We used Duofilm (OTC) on my son's wart. It took several weeks, but it worked. I know this isn't exactly what you're looking for, but I thought I'd just share my experience.

Ok, I am totally serious about this, use DUCT TAPE, you know that silver tape stuff. Don't laugh. A friend of mine has a DD with serious wart issues, they tried the OTC, freezing, acid, everything, nothing worked. I had heard about Duct tape and mentioned to her that she should try that. She called her Dr and asked about it and he laughed and said that he was going to recommend that as well. She did it and it worked.

Put a piece of the tape over the wart, leave it there for a week or so, reapply as necessary. Try it, it is cheaper then anything else you are using and won't hurt anything if it doesn't work.

That settles it then, We keep the appointment and save the $$$ on the OTC stuff. Golfgal, I have duct tape and before I even hit "reply", I applied the duct tape. I remember hearing that before so thanks for reminding me.

Our experience - ds had a wart on his thumb - took him to a dermatologist 3 times for removal (sorry, this next time is gross) they freeze sprayed it, burned it and cut it off (after deadening the area, of course!) with a scalpel - I guess they have a series of treatments... it came back after every treatment - then his ped said try duct tape - we duct-taped it and it was gone in about a week and has been gone over a year now!

My younger son has one on the bottom of his foot - we will have to go for treament for that one - it's too awkward to use duct tape on his foot!

How about cutting a piece of the Duct Tape, putting it ON the spot (WART) and then applying a BAND-AIDE? Maybe that will work. Feet get very warm and the combo of D.T. & Band-Aide MAY just do the TRICK!!!!! :goodvibes

My now 7 year old had a couple of warts on his foot. I wouldn't go as far as saying they were plantar warts but they were ugly and sometimes walking really hurt him. I had warts frozen off as a kid and it HURT so I didn't want to do that to him unless I had to. Plus mine came back a few years after I had them burned off so I wasn't too thrilled with the thought of having him go through it all again. I did some internet research and came to a place called amoils. They have a product called Heal Warts so I read the testimonials. I decided to give it a try as duct tape didn't work, was ugly and too hard to keep it on a busy kids foot. The amoils heal warts has a oils that are anti viral to kill the virus that causes warts.

I gave it a shot and within 2 weeks they were completely gone and I was shocked. It's been almost 3 years and not 1 wart has come back. We tried the Compound W and every other wart removal system known to man except having them taken off by a dermatologist but I swear this stuff really works.

I had a nasty plantar wart when I was about 14 on the heel of my foot. After several trips to the podiatrist he ended up cutting part of the skin of my heel off and applying some form of acid on my heel and then covering it with a pig skin bandage thing. It hurt like HE!! and as I thought it had been coming back in the last few years. I used the Amoils and it's gone after 8 treatments and no pain.

My mom used it a year ago for a wart on her finger...gone. Hasn't returned.

There are testimonials from people on their website but honestly this stuff works. It's 25.95 and comes with a 60 day unconditional guarantee. It generally takes between 2-6 weeks but with my son it was seriously not quite 2 weeks and they were gone for good.

We spent 3k on dr appts about 6 years ago for wart removal for all of dd's warts. Maybe I should used duct tape, LOL.

DD needed a good l0 appts to freeze all her warts. They kept coming back.
She's been wart free now for years.
herc.
