WARRIORS springing into MAY!!

Happy Friday night warriors!!!!

You guys are all doing GREAT!

Stan = wtg on your first marathon!!

It is a freakin' hot day today. I left the house this morning about 1015 for my daily run. Waaaaaaaay too late. I managed to slog through 2 miles before I decided it was just not the right time to run. Ran 2 miles, then walked a mile home.

So, feeling guilty, this evening I went out and did 4 more slow miles. Not sure if it's the heat or tired legs from yesterday, but it was a slow day. But I guess it's expected to be slower in high heat. It has gotten really hot really quickly, so it's gonna' take some time yo get back in the hot weather swing of things.

I guess it's almost time to sign up for the Stupi........................ uhhh, Goofy Challenge. See ya' there???

Hi Warriors!

Sorry I haven't been in touch in a while, but life takes over!

I'm REALLY going to start training next week, for a run...next run up is the DL 1/2 in September.

Anyone else signed up for that? If you are let me know you're training schedule and maybe we can train together!

cheers!

Good Morning Warriors!

I can't believe I haven't checked in since stalking Carrie at the Flying Pig! (I ran behind her for quite awhile- would have to stop with calf cramping then catch up again - I might have even gotten ahead at the top of the hill when she stopped for photos but finally lost her on a potty stop)

I liked the pig- fun race I could leave the rain though- I'm almost afraid to sign up for a fall race after WDW and Flying Pig I think the 2010 race season just might be jinxed!

Hey hey-

i have a lot of catching up to do with you all!!!

Carrie congrats on the flying pig- oh i can imagine the tension as you waited to hear if it was on. I'm always really reluctant to buy finisher stuff before a race, but have promised myself that if I don't finish something then I would throw the items away! sorry i don't have any races planned for this month :(

Jim well I'm glad it's not just me that sweats in the pool. Oh no actually i 'glow' ha ha. Love the determination you have for swimming, guess you'll spend more time in the water with the heat rising? My word it's hot there!

Michelle rubbish that you've been poorly sick again. You'll be the best bronchitis diagnostician ever soon! If it's your last day on meds do you feel better then?

Stan congratulations on becoming a marathoner!!!!! How does it feel and has it sunk in yet?

Jeremy you're training sounds really consistent! brilliant effort. I too love my garmin (not the fit of it mind you!). Do you always record your splits after a run and keep a log or something? People keep telling me to keep more detailed records of runs, but not really sure about it! Glad your mum's doing well, we have two elderly relatives (one's 98) so know all about caring for people too. Look after yourself too tho!

Tracy just in case I hadn't mentioned it..... so proud that your hard work is paying off!!!Lightning alarms hey, as if the lightning was scary enough on it's own!

Lily oh my word Lily i am so sorry- you're absolutely right though, it's one bump and you've got through so much together in your life that you guys will sail through. Thrilled that it's contained. Walking is amazing to destress so def keep at it!!!! Massive cuddles coming your way.

Chris congrats on your half too- let the training recommence ha ha ha.

Sarah wonderful news that you found a bump cuddler for your runs. they really do think of everything don't they! Hey you should get some fabric paint and decorate some of them so you can feel like you have lots of different styles!!!! :)

Marcia great to see you :woohoo:

me got home from WDW on thurs morning and have to admit i was half hoping te ash cloud might have stopped our flight..... i wouldn't be that selfish for everyone else tho and was desperate to see DB :) Had a brilliant time with my parents, weather was HOT after the first 2 days. Melted a little but got in 3 runs: 2x 3 milers and 1x 6miles around coronado springs which was gorgeous. I should have been out again by now but a friend's wedding last night has had somewhat lasting effects so I'll delay for now :rotfl:

So pleased to see you're all doing so well!!!!!

Katie - My consistancy right now has come from my work schedule. I teach college part time. This quarter I'm only teaching t/th. The good part is that leaves me M/W/F free to train, the bad part is income is down right now. Prior to getting my Garmin, my log consisted of scratching off workout on my training routine. Now, I'm playing around with 3 computerized loging method.

1) Garmin Training Center - the software that came with my garmin, you can download it off the Web Site though.
Advantages - Download automatically when I plug the Garmin in to recharge, best at making advanced workouts.
Disadvantage - Only basic features.

2) SportTracks
Advantages - Does nearly everything Lots of features
Disadvanges - Not automatic, some complain of it being complicated.

3) Garmin Connect
Advantages - Online can share results easily. More features than GTC
Disadvantages - not automatic (at least with my 405), not as feature rich as Sports tracks

There are tons others. Right now, I think I'm going to keep using all 3 because they each serve a purpose. Garmin Training Center for the automatic downloads (as a backup in case I forget to download). Sporttracks for the bulk of my analysis, and Garmin connect for online use, sharing results.

Marcia it's great to see you back! Can't wait to hang again!

Lily I hope the half went well!

Jim - goofy huh? I can't make up my mind. Lol. Tracy has told the Mrs to just sign me up for Goofy. Now that's not right is it? Lol. Oh yes and slower in the heat is a smart move

Everyone else I hope your training is going awesome!

Afm I got in 8 miles yesterday and man it was hot. I enjoyed them though as I hit a metro park instead of the normal streets so I'm sure that helped

Lily - :grouphug: for DH's prognosis. My father was diagnosed with it about two years back. He has a few 2nd opinons and finally went with the seeding. He is doing fine now and the one good thought is that pretty much most prostate cancers are not life threatening. I hope it all works out. Take your time, do research and get 2nd opinions.

Chris - yep, told your DW to just sign you up for Goofy when you weren't looking because you are just indecisive. :lmao:

AFM - did a 6 mile March of Dimes event yesterday and a small 2 miler for the Breast Cancer Walk to Empower this moring. So I am a bit pooped.
Going to try and catch the spaceshuttle launch this Friday and then going to hop over to WDW that night and stay one night. Anyone going to be at WDW the 14th or 15th??

Have a great Mother's Day everyone~:flower3:

Happy Mother's Day Warriors!!

It's been a "bad back day" so far :-(. But I was still able to get in a slow 7 miles this morning before it got too hot. I think I am going to have to "pre-medicate" myself before I go running.

Hope everyone is doing GREAT today!!!

Marcia - I'm also registered for the DL 1/2. Hope to see ya'll there!

Tomorrow - swimming & biking.

Hey Carrie, Just to let you know I have a 5K on the 31st of this month. Weston Memorial Day 5K.

I am also signed up for the DL 1/2 Jim and Marcia! Marcia - when are you starting your training and what is the longest miles you do?

Happy Late Mother's Day :cool1:

Did another 3.33 miler walk. Did it in better time than the week before. Need to really get back into the miles but next week I go to Texas to see my grandsons in El Paso. I try and see them every 3 months as long as my son is stationed there. :woohoo:

Got into our pool and did some swimming and still spinning the pedals.

Hope everyone else is doing well with training.

Kathy

Hi Warriors!

Jim, sorry the back was not a happy thing today. I hate that you have to deal with it. Wish it would not be so.

Kate, sounds like a good vacation.

Marcia, glad to see you. You've got time before DL. Just don't let yourself get too out of the running habit.

Chris, I like Tracey's idea of having your DW sign up a Goofy in the family.

Jeremy, the trail sounds like a great place to do your walking. My advice for the Cleve event would be to not try to go too fast and cause injury. Use the event as a starting point or training adventure. See what you can do, but be wise in keeping your control until you are sure the blister problem is defeated. You don't want to necessarily risk injury and set backs by going faster than you should just now.

Tracey, wow, 2 events this weekend. You should be tired.

Pam, glad you got the event done and sorry about the weather thing surrounding your events. Hope that the next one is perfect weather. What fall event are you thinking of doing?

Kathy, good job improving your pace. Enjoy your visit. Maybe you can find a spot to get in a few steps for the fun of it.

I did the half Saturday in Indianapolis, IN, OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon. What a fun event! It was wicked windy and with cool weather that was interesting, played very slowly as we went around the race track and made up for that with improved pace after. Still did it in almost 3:30. It was all good though. We had a great WISH Team mini meet and that made the weekend enjoyable.

Treated my Mom and of course me and DH to a Mother's Day ice cream. We all enjoyed.

Lily -party: Congratulation on your finish at Indy. Sorry to hear about your DH.(missed it the first time I ready through your post). My dad had prostate cancer in the early 80's. He had surgery and radiation treatments and hasn't had any troubles since. Caught early enough, prostate cancer has a very high treatment rate. BTW, do you have any suggestions for places to eat in Cleveland that would be good and cheap?Last year, we went to Olive Garden, when my friend ran at cleveland.

Kathy - Have fun visiting the grandson. You can work on building miles when you get back.

Jim - Hope you back is feeling better.

Tracy - Congratulations on your back to back runs.
Chris - Glad you were able to make it through a hot workout.

AFM I got out today for my 30 min. taper walk. Boy did that feel short. I ended up doing 2 miles in a little over 30 minutes. The middle 15 minutes I combined 3 minutes of normal walking with 1 minute of faster walking. I got rid of the running I'd been doing the past couple of weeks but kept the interval work. My feet are almost completely healed.

I've been using a fanny pack in training to carry water and I'm planning on carrying the following items. 2 water bottles, a pack of Power Bar Gel Blasts, Kleenex, Cell phone, Copy of ID, medical tape, MP3 player (haven't decided on using or not). Any other things you can think of that would be useful?

Right now, my plan for Sunday it start near (at) the back of the pack. Looking at last years results, there are about 300 people going my desired pace or slower. Miles 1 probably 2 - Just let them happen both the marathon and half marathon are sold out so that's alot of people to get moving. Going to try not to go out too fast but don't want to get run over either. Mile 2-3 try to find a group of people going a comfortable pace to stick with until probably mile 10. Hopefully that equates to average pace of about 16:00 mile, starting out slower and slowly building to about 15:50 (did this except went to 15:30 in my 8 miler). Mile 10-11 is the last long hill. It will probably slow me down a little. Miles 11-13.1 decide what I have left to push to the finish. Looking at my last couple of long runs, if everything goes well, 3:30ish is a good possiblity. I will be happy though with just finishing with a smile.

One last question, I've been training with the Heart Rate Monitor the past couple of weeks since I bought my Garmin. Do you think I should wear it in the race or just run without it?

My next race will probably be in Sept- Fort Wayne Indiana has a half marathon (usually the 3rd Sat- but I havent' even checked for this year yet) I've done it every year since it started so I'll probably do that - it's too convient to miss! (20 minutes away- I can shower at home after the race) That's probably the only thing on my agenda for now unless I find some local shorter races to do.

I'm waiting another week to get back into training after the pig mainly because I spent the week after the pig in several elementary schools with "snot nosed kids" (literally) and now have a whopping cold of my own- besides the fact that here in fl I have to be out before it's light out or it is too warm for me to run- I have my gear with me but I'm thinking it'll go home clean!

I'm sorry I'm so behind!
Lily - Prayers for your DH.

I've gotten a bit behind in my work-outs because life has taken over! I have one more run to finish the C25K and then I start the 10K work-out plan. I think I need to do more intervals and less straight running. I suspect for the 1/2 marathon I'll end up walking a minute for every 10 min I run (or something like that). It still seems overwhelming at this point! Plus, we're not sure about $$$ right now for the trip in January so I may end up running a different 1/2 marathon. I'm still optimistic that it'll work out!

Amanda

Jeremy - I would add lip balm. Especially in hot summers and cold winters, it is my life saver!!! (and lip savers)

Lily - Congrats.

I was a bit tired after my two events this weekend. Saturdays March of Dimes, March for Babies was pretty HOT!!! Sun right on the beach with barely any shade for all the walk and not much of a breeze.
Sunday was much nicer and was at Jungle Island in Miami and it went all along the trails at the park.

I am headed up to Spacecoast on Friday morning to catch the space shuttle launch! Whoo hoo and keeping fingers crossed that it goes off on schedule. Supposed to be at 2:20pm. Then heading over to WDW to stay the night and then come back home on Saturyday!! plus that gives me a chance to see the shuttle again if it is postponed for some reason. I might as well try it again as I am off from work on Friday.

It's been crazy around here; I've been trying to keep up with all the posts!

WTG to everyone who had events over the weekend (Lily, Tracy, am I missing anyone? :goodvibes) :thumbsup2

Lily: Sorry to hear about your husband's diagnosis. Sending good thoughts that treatment goes as planned and that he's good as new in no time! Have a great vacation!

Kate: Too bad the volcano didn't cooperate with you on the way home! Glad to hear you had a great trip!

Jeremy: I would definitely wear the Garmin and HRM for your race! It's kind of nice to know your level of exertion - but I would turn off any alerts you have programmed into your Garmin because they can just become frustrating!

Tracy: Have a fantastic mini-vacation! I think you've earned some WDW time, chickie!

As for me.... same old story. Still moving, but it's getting harder. I did 10 rolling (see: turn the corner and start cursing the uphill) miles on Saturday in the first really warm day we've had yet and it was really tough, to be honest. It took me 2:32 to do 10 miles and I was dead tired at the end. I was the last runner/walker back from our running group - the half marathoners were only scheduled for 6 miles, but I decided to do the 10 mile marathon workout just to see if I could. :rolleyes1 I thought the poor Arthritis Foundation director was going to be having a fit about it (I don't think their insurance covers crazy pregnant ladies!), but it turns out that he was sending "spies" up the road in their cars to make sure I was still coming. :lmao: They've also decided that I need to carry one of the family service radios that we normally use for events on all our runs, now. :rotfl:

I've been bribed with ice cream to show up for an extra run tomorrow after coaching, so I'll be getting in a hopefully sunny 3 miles tomorrow!

Happy Thursday Ladies & Gents!!

A lovely hot day in NE Florida. A bit of an southeasterly wind today, but otherwise pretty roasty toasty.

Ya'll sound like you are all doing great! Keep it up!

As for me, I did a 40 miler on the bike yesterday, and 7 miles running today. It's still the "get used to the heat" time of the year. I did not get out of the house on my run until about 10:3o this morning. I seem to have the need to watch my stock portfolio get hammered in real-time before I can leave the house. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Did the run with a "run 7/walk 1" m inute strategy. It went ok, but I decided to cut it short & not press my luck. It was kinda' slow, but that Galloway guy sez in the heat that's ok. I'll take his word on it. :rotfl::rotfl:

I was going to swim this morning, but found my goggles had gotten broken & did not want to fry my eyeballs in the chlorine, so with my work schedule, it will probably be Tuesday before I get back in the water.

Have a great Friday everyone!!

Sarah - I am glad they sent out sneaky spies to check on you. I would have done it!! Keep going strong Warrior!

OK - T- minus 15 hours 41 minutes until the Launch of the last flight of the Space Shuttle Atlantis!! keep you fingers and toes crossed that nothing goes wrong and it goes off without a hitch - so I can see it!!. Only two more launches after this one!

Tracy

Hey Warriors! Missed you all! Planned to check in Friday after indulging in a nap after core work out. Checked my e-mail when I got up though, adn found out a good friend's dad had died.
