Just a word of caution to any of you out there who modify a reservation with a discounted rate! Hopefully I can save you the hassle I've had today. I called today to take 2 days off of my reservation. I found great airfare on Southwest ($118 RT!) and couldn't pass it up. But, it required me to cut the trip short a few days.

After Disney modified the dates for me, they proceeded to quote me my new balance--at regular rack rate!! Apparently when the reservation was modified the discount was removed somehow. Not a big deal if this was a CRO ressie and I had a confirmation to prove that I had the rate to begin with before the change. Instead, this was a WDTC package and there was never a confirmation when it was first booked (just my reservation #). So, it is basically my word against their's. The discount is no longer available obviously (the agent tried to book it all over again) so this is a mess. I have a supervisor working on it--it still isn't fixed.

So, just be sure you double check your rates when you modify your ressie!

Thanks for the tip. I keep thinking about changing hotels or dates with my upcoming trip 6 days just doesn't seem long enough!

That's good to know. Thanks for the tip and keep us informed if it works out or not. BTW, I noticed you're located in Maui. How were you able to get RT airfare to WDW for $118.00? That's an awesome price!

i was going to ask the same question! LOL!

I called a few weeks ago to drop three nights from our ressie at the Poly next week. I still got the discounted rate. Did you call to change after the code expired. I *think* I called to change the ressie on the last day to reserve with the code. I couldn't resist the big discounts at the Swan, so we are splitting our stay...

I had problems like that before. They always seems to screw them up if you try to change anything. Then when it is your word against theirs, auugghh. But is seems to me there has to be a record of your old reservation somewhere. I just don't believe when you cancel there is no record of WHAT you cancelled. It is strange to me! :bitelip:

We're thinking of modifying a ressie too, but ours is split into two--one night at AAA rate, which we're thinking of cancelling, and three nights at code. Will this cause the same problems, do you think?

LOL! That is where I *wish* I lived! I visit Maui every year. :flower1:

$118 RT was from the East Coast. Southwest has some great fares this week--almost 30% less than the fares I shopped last week!

I think that was the problem. The discount had expired and was no longer available. In the end, it all worked out and the rate is back. But, you can imagine the worry of losing the discount. It would have really put the whole trip up in the air.

I would just make sure the CM knows exactly what you have before the change and then recap the pricing after the change. The key is to double check eveything whenever you make a change. Happy planning! :)

I had this happen to me when I wanted to drop 3 nights of my 2nd room, at
the discounted rate. When I spoke to the CM, I told him upfront what I wanted to do, he said," no problem I'll just cancel and rebook", I said "no you won't, the hotel is sold out, and the rate is no longer available for the 1 night that I need." His reply was, "you're right, I won't be able to get that rate." He had to contact a supervisor, and after 20 min, on my dime, they changed my reservation. My advice, always have them check before they change your reservation.

The policy at Disney Reservation Center is to modify if possible. If not rebook and cancel, not cancel and rebook.

Yup. As I noted in another thread this evening, be careful when you book online. I did so because I knew I'd be calling a month or two later to apply a discount code, and since I was booking at rack rate for the time being I didn't think it would be a big deal - it was.

They cannot modify online ressies at all - they have to be cancelled totally from what I understand. Further, you cannot transfer the deposit made on an online ressie to one you make over the phone, so you have to be refunded the first deposit and pay a new one in the meantime.

They are pretty flexible most of the time, but there are a few rules to keep in mind, as this thread has shown. It also pays to ask first, because the answer you get can vary from CM to CM.

N.E.D.

I had reservations at Movies with the code for the 3rd week of Jan. I needed to change the dates to the 4th week. After we checked availability etc, the price quoted was still the same amount and my confirmation that was mailed reflects the deposit and the correct amount still due. Wonder why they couldn't have just taken those last two days off without rebooking the whole thing, which it sounds like what they did. I would be fuming!
