WARNING**Senseless poll...Cornrow braids....holiday fashion faux pas or not?

What do you think of the cornrow braids so many get when they are on holidays?

  • Love 'em and get them whenever we go away

  • Like them only on younger people

  • Not a fan of them at all..but they do give me a good laugh

  • Extremely tacky...looks totally foolish on most adults

Now see you look cute :thumbsup2 ...for the length of hair you have it totally suits but there are some who do have their hair shorter and figure it would look just great to have the entire head in braids with beads which generally is not a good look :lmao:

Thank you!!!! But I am making a mental note not to show up at a DIS meet with my hair in cornrows. It could be a very empty, lonely table :wave2: .

the whole time I was in the checkout line at Wal-Mart I was thinking "Mr. Sam would be rolling over in his grave to see the checkout boy(early 20s, blond cornrowed hair)" If I owned a business I would never hire ANYONE with cornrows. They look really tacky, especially on white kids.

I'm a 38 year old black woman, I've worn braids most of my live. I don't think they're tacky at all.

I think it kind of funnl that people are willing to spend vacation time getting their hair braided. :lmao: That's something I do BEFORE my trip. :confused3

I've seen plenty of white girls and women with braids and most of them look great. :cheer2:

Yeah, the "headband" style with cornrows doesn't look silly on white women like the full head treatment does. On kids it's cute, on African folks it looks normal.

I think white women would look better with just braids, not cornrows.

What a funny topic! Makes me remember my trip to the Bahamas, and yes, I got the cornrows! Looking at the pictures now makes me want to gag! LOL!

Okay - can someone who has done this explain to me about washing your hair with cornrows or braids?

I wash my hair almost everyday. Sometimes I skip a day, but I usually feel kind of weird by the end of the second day. I am almost 60 so I don't have extra oily hair.

It's just that living where it is hot and humid, it is not unusual to get sweaty. So the idea of not washing my hair for a week or so would be like not taking a shower for a week.

I don't mean to imply that anyone is not clean (maybe I'm the only one with a "dirty" head), but this is something I'm curious about. I also wonder about all of those little blue haired ladies who have their hair done once a week. I'm so close to being in that age group that it is scary.

Ugh cornrows. Tacky on children. Tacky on adults. I see them and I just cringe. So glad I don't have girls because I would NEVER let them do that to their hair.

Washing my hair was a breeze! I can't remember if I used shampoo or not, but I know I rinsed it well in the shower and just patted it dry w/ a towel.

disneyjunkie, I have always said if I go back to the Bahamas or somewhere like that, I will get it done beforehand! I have thought about doing it before a DW or beach vacation, but just never have.

I think it's uber-unflattering on almost everybody, with the exception of some African American women (and not even they can all pull it off!)

don't care for them on adults, but can look cute on little girls. Two of my DD's got it done on the cruise last summer and I though it looked cute. However, I would look like a fool with them in
