I WILL START BY SAYING THAT I AM NOT BASHING THIS AIRLINE. IN FACT, EVEN THOUGH THEY SCREWED UP, I WILL FLY THEM AGAIN. ANYWAY, SPIRIT CANCELLED INDEFINATELY SOME OF THE FLIGHTS WITHOUT NOTIFYING PASSENGERS( LIKE ME ) I CALLED TO CONFIRM OUR FLIGHTS FOR JAN CRUISE AND THEY READ BACK ALL OUR INFO THEN ADDING THAT THERE IS A CHANGE. OUR RETURN FLIGHTS (325 PM)DONT EXIST ANYMORE....THEY DID AWAY WITH THAT FLIGHT FOREVER(WE HAVE BEEN TAKING THAT RETURN FLIGHT BACK TO CHICAGO OHARE FOR YEARS)I MADE THE RESSIES IN THE END OF MAY- AND THEY KNEW ABOUT THIS CHANGE FOR MONTHS.THEY APOLOGIZED. THE FLIGHT THAT THEY PUT US ON (AGAIN WITHOUT OUR KNOWLEDGE) WAS AT 1050AM THE DAY WE GET OFF OF THE SHIP. I LET HER KNOW THAT WAS IMPOSSIBLE AND THEY PUT US ON A 650 PM FLIGHT..........BUT LETTING ME KNOW THAT THE PLANE WAS NEAR FULL AND WE WERE SQUEEZED ON. NOW, I CALLED TO CONFIRM. WHAT ABOUT THE SUPRISE THAT THE POOR PEOPLE WILL GET WHO DONT CALL AND SHOW UP WITH AN E-TICKET IN HAND? SHE SAID THAT A FEW FLIGHTS FROM ALL OF THE CITIES THEY FLY FROM HAVE BEEN ALTERED OR DONE AWAY WITH SO CALL IF YOU ARE FLYING SPIRIT AIR:worried:

mariamard,

Thanks for the warning about Spirit Airlines. We are using them to fly from Detroit to Orlando in February. I check the prices of the airfares daily, so hopefully I will notice any change in our fights. I would be pretty ticked off if our flights got changed! I have things planned down to the minute for this trip!

Thanks for the heads up. We are (were) taking the 3:25 flight to Chicago in January also. They switched us to the 10:50 am flight. I called DCL this morning to find out what is the absolute earliest we can get off the boat to try and make this flight. I never did find out. I have never encountered such a rude CM. He basicaly yelled at me that I was told not to book a flight before 12:30 and this is what I get for not buying my airfair through them. They wanted $400 round trip. I paid $161.
The trip is for our 10th anniversary and our whole family is coming. I didn't need this headache so I asked my Mom to work it out. After 10 years of marriage I still need my Mom sometimes.

NW canceled our 11am return flight to Detroit and put us on a 10am flight which is too tight after the cruise.

They did send me an email with the change and when I called immediately switched us to a 1pm flight.

I fly twice a week and have seen lots of scheduling changes across the US in the last month. Now may be a good time for cruiser to "reconfirm" their flights.

Unfortunately, most if not all the airlines do this type of thing. I've had the same thing with Delta several times.

DID YOU HAVE THEM BOOK YOU ON A LATER FLIGHT? DID THEY (SPIRIT) CONTACT YOU TO INFORM YOU, OR WAS THIS A SUPRISE?THEY SHOULD CHANGE YOU TO THE 650PM FLIGHT........

Thanks for the warning, I just booked 4 tickets from Detroit to Orlando in January. I will definitely keep checking to make sure they don't change things more, they did already change the time of our departing flight, but they sent an e-mail letting us know they had made a change (of only about 20 minutes).

We did have them change it to the 6:25 flight. I was told they were in the process of letting people know their flight was changed. I'm not sure why they couldn't just send a mass email to people who booked online.
I also found out that the people at DCL are not allowed to tell you what time the 1st bus leaves. They are trained very well at concealing this. No matter what you ask them, they will not tell you. However, the CM did tell my Mom "You will never make a 10:50 flight because you have to go through customs and all that crap!" She is trained well enough to survive the chinese water tourture and not reveal the bus times, but not well enough to not use the word "crap". My Mom is not the type to be easily offended, but took joy in making the woman squirm when she pointed it out.

to me too for my Jan cruise

I was booked on SW on a 1:45pm flight out and they changed it to 11:00am, I had to call and tell them I thought I might not have time to make this flight as I am taking the bus from the ship. So they put me on a 3pm flight, they did not contact me I just happened to check my reservation on Expedia and it had a note that he flight times changed. They did say if I made it to the airport on time I could go on standby for the earlier flight.

I honestly don't remember what time I was off the ship by as I rented a car for the trip to the airport both times..

You can bet I will be checking my flight times from now on.

We were booked for an 11:30 flight after our last cruise. Others in our party were booked for a late afternoon flight. We were able to get to the airport early enough so the others switched to the 10:35 flight. Granted, they had to literally run through the airport, but they made it.

We were lucky enough that our departure off the boat was smooth -- we were among the first off the ship, found our luggage immediately, got quickly/smoothly through customs, got onto the first bus to pull away. However, I know that all of these things can hit snags and I personally wouldn't want to be relying on getting to the airport for such an early flight. (and I am thinking that is why the CM's can't give a departure time). I have read stories of people with experiences similar to ours and have read stories of people who weren't able to get off the ship until much later than usual (not due to their own fault).

DH is currently looking into flights for our next cruise -- thanks for the heads-up about Spirit.

DISNEYSARAH...IM GLAD THAT YOU WERE BLE TO GET THAT PM FLIGHT!:) IM WORRIED FOR THOSE OTHER PEOPLE THAT WERE ON THE ORIGINAL FLIGHT(325 PM) ON JAN 31 THAT HAVE NOT BEEN NOTIFIED OF BEING PUT AUTOMATICLY ON THE 1050AM FLIGHT. COULD YOU IMAGINE GETTING TO THE AIRPOT TO HEAR THAT? I WOULD GO NUTS.....BUT, THE THING IS, THE PM FLIGHT THAT I WAS ABLE TO GET MY FAMILY ON WAS NEAR FULL 4 DAYS AGO.I JUST WORRY FOR THOSE OTHER FOLKS.SOMEONE AT DISNEY SAID CRAP:eek: OH MY!!!! I WOULD HAVE DONE THE SAME AS DISNEYSARAHS MOM TO TORTURE THE CM ABOUT SAYING "CRAP"   :rotfl: :rotfl:

Thank you for posting this information!! I called Spirit today about my reservations I made on the web. Indeed my flight has been changed. The days were the same, but the departing time is different, making the fact that I was going to surprise my kids with the flight difficult. They had also put me on a much earlier flight home, which only mattered to me because it is taking away that extra day we booked to be able to do some visiting. I got her to change the flight home to a later one. I just wonder how many times it is going to be changed again. I had 2 reservations since we have a family of 8 and you can only book 4 at a time on the web. They also said they didn't have a valid email address for me..funny..I booked on the web and they already sent me one confirmation.......who's kidding who here? Kind of a lame excuse considering. Thanks again for the heads up. Melissa

SPIRIT sent me an e-mail changing the departure times for both legs of our flight in Aug. It isn't much of a big deal since we are flying in the night before and staying through the weekend after the cruise. I am a heavy-duty planner though, so this threw me off for a few minutes!

I suggest everyone keep an eye on their flight reservations.
