Warning for buying gift cards from third parties

Apparently that person didn’t notice the fraudulent charge for more than three months.
(as the discounted web-site return policy covers you for only 90 days anyways).

I don't buy how someone misses a $300 fraudulent charge for more than 3 months...which just so happens to conveniently coincide with the resellers 90 day return policy. Weird. So big red flag from the get-go on the original purchaser(s).

From my perspective, it appears you were the intended victim. The reseller was the blind mule. They lay in wait for 90 days hoping the unused funds can be traced and frozen. Financial institution reverses their funds. You are out. Mission accomplished.

Not saying this with 100% certainty, but, idk, that 90 days seems awfully fishy.

That is what I can hardly get. I check charges on my credit card all the time, and especially before I pay my bill.

But there are people who don't pay the credit card monthly - so that might be the case? I don't know. Anybody can make mistake I guess. My daughter is ADHD - I can totally see her not checking her credit card for three months. Luckily she is 17, so she is not at that point yet.

Or it could have happened the way you described. Who knows...

I guess I learned by now. Unfortunately that is how we learn often - through the mistakes. But sometimes we can learn from other people mistakes. So hope somebody will learn on my mistake.

One of my friends was just diagnosed with cancer. So my 300 dollars is nothing compared to other people troubles they go through sometimes. I can live with that.

to OP you should be following up on the seller you bought from originally- and getting your money back that way if possible,up to and including fraud claims.... either they accidentally sold you a fraudulent card,or they did this *on purpose* and called it a stolen credit card purchase after the 90 day mark to get their own money back. Either way that stinks, and you should be chasing them down trying to get your funds back.

As a fraud victim, I had a credit card opened in my name without my knowledge this year. The first I learned of it was three months later when Credit Karma alerted me that my credit score had dropped dramatically. Billing statements had been sent to an address that wasn't mine. Stolen goods had also been sent to a different address. Just an example as to how credit card fraud could be discovered a few months later.

Well - we have Identity Guard which notifies us every time if somebody even checks our credit scores. Which usually happens before person even opens a credit card or gets a loan.

So now I see - that we are not wasting our money paying for their services.
