DH & I were at BWV (room 1068 - HA bath) from 5/18 - 23. I wasn't crazy about the ground level, but once we got in and settled I ended up liking it. Loved having two "patios" (one from the living room that was shared with the next door folks, and a more private one off the bedroom).

The day after we arrived, DH decided to take a shower. DH is an above knee amputee. I offered to help (he refused) hopped in with his walker. I heard the water turn off and then heard "no! no! no!" and then a crash. I rushed to the bathroom to find DH on the floor! I took one step and nearly fell too. Seems that the nice shiny white linolim (sp?) tiles get very, very slippery when wet! I managed not to fall and helped DH to get up and out of the bathroom. He luckily didn't break anything but he is badly bruised (both physically and emotionally). He kept saying he was fine - that he had the wind knocked out of him and told me to relax. :sad2:

The next morning (around 5:00 AM) he was really sore. So sore it hurt to use the walker. So I went down to the front desk for a wheelchair for him to use in the room. I also told them about the fall. The lady at the desk got me a wheelchair and a bathmat and said "hope your husband feels better."

DH ended up staying in the room the rest of our vacation. He had a scooter that we had rented but he said it hurt to move a lot and I wanted him to take it easy. So I ended up using the scooter (since it was paid for) and I was so glad I had it - it was so hot I had trouble breathing. (I'm a cardiac patient - open heart surgery when I was a child - and have been told by doctors to walk but not when it's too hot/humid). Usually when we go to WDW, DH has a scooter and I walk and we take lots of breaks. If it's extremely hot/humid I'll rent a scooter at the park. That way we don't take two scooter spots on the buses. Plus I am NOT good at parking those scooters on the bus!

No one did a follow-up or anything - but I hadn't expected anyone too because I didn't think a report was done. When we were leaving I brought down the wheelchair and got to talking to the CM about DH's fall. She looked and said a report had been made (surprised me!). I'm glad a report was done.

DH is still bruised but is healing (thank God). I'm glad it wasn't worse! So just a warning - those tiles are slick when they get wet!

Here's a photo of the HA bathroom we had. The white tiles are the slippery ones.

My daughter fractured her growth plate and sprained her wrist getting off Kali River Rapids when the cm didn't move the raft in the right position for the ada transfer seat to be next to her and she had to bump over seats to get to the right place to get out. The only reason I heard from anyone at Disney was because I sent an email to recognize the cm that took the report since the only thing they did at Animal Kingdom was tell me where the hospital and urgent care were located. They called to thank me for taking the time to recognize the cm.

That's the trouble- tiles can be lethal when wet! I was walking out of a restroom at TGI Friday's once and went flying without realising because the floor was wet. Luckily I only hurt my knee and didn't break anything!

Perhaps the bathrooms need a mat next to the shower? I know I accidentally flooded the bathroom when we were at Royal Pacific and I used a ton of towels just mopping it up (had a mishap with the shower curtain). I guess it would add too much extra work for house/mousekeeping.

:scared1:, I hope that your DH heals well. Thanks for the warning :teacher:
I'm sorry he didn't get to really enjoy this trip:hug:

So sorry about the fall. :flower3:

Was the bath mat something like a towel, or was it rubber with suction cups so non slip?

Hope your DH feels better soon.

We were in a regular room at POR in 2009 and I think they had just cleaned the carpets and they were not quiet dry. I almost wiped out when I went from the carpeted area to the bathroom tile. It was like walking on ice. And the tile wasn't even wet, just my shoes barely damp.

we were in OKW in 08 during Tropical storm Fay. 2bdrm villa first floor. The sidewalk to our villa was a pond from all the rain. The entry area inside the villa at the door is tile. We had to be very careful coming in each time. Our poor mousekeeper slipped and fell on the tile one day. thankfully she wasn't hurt.

Sorry to hear your husband did not get to enjoy the trip.
