Guys, a lot of VMK players have been getting the message about downloading the latest version of shockwave when they try to log in. DO NOT DOWNLOAD THE PROGRAM. Immediately hit CANCEL when it prompts you to download the program.

Adobe has a bug in it that will no longer allow you to play VMK (and various other games) because it is not compatible with the Windows system.

I may have ruined my chance to play VMK for the final month because I tried to download this stuff. Don't want this happening to anyone else.:sad1:

This same exact thing has happened to me as well, but has not affected my overall game play. After I updated my shockwave it now will not allow me to click anything on the VMK homepage except a few worthless things.

The only way I can actually get into the game is through VMKPal or going directly to the VMK Login Page.

When I then try and login it tells me that I must update the latest version of shockwave.. yada yada yada. I just hit cancel and luckily it still allows me to play, but it can be a great pain in the.. yeah.. lately.

use the vmk site map link on the bottom to navigate the home page. Also set login page as favorite, you can find it here in the guide as full page link.

Aww, Lucky!! I am sorry that you are having problems. I downloaded it and have not had any issues.

Do you have a system restore on your PC so that you can go back to a point before you installed it?

That's a good suggestion. Another suggestion, if you don't have a system restore, is to remove Shockwave entirely from your computer and then go to www.oldversion.com and download the newest version of Shockwave that they have on there (which should be the version immediately before this one).

ETA: There is a direct link here. Scroll to the bottom of this page and the one you want is version 10.1.4.020

Opera quit on me, and i have to do that with firefox. Pal works only if i click ok then download it each time i start pal up. :headache: so annoying!

I have the exact same symptoms as Krazy, and I must now login by going direct to the login page, use the site map at vmk to get to the newsletter, etc.

I've tried all of the tips I have found about uninstalling and reinstalling flash, shockwave, and java...as well as resetting internet explorer.

Nothing fixes the problem.

It is not just vmk that is affected...youtube as well (unless a video is embedded in a website, then it plays fine).

At least none of us is alone with the problem, lol.

The same thing has been happening to me for the last couple of weeks - both on VMK and Webkinz.

I use the VMK login page to get in there, and the "backdoor" from Elubin "Unofficial Webkinz Fan Site" that has a link to the Webkinz login page.

It is extremely annoying; but thanks for the advice on how to read the Newsletter. Very little on the VMK Homepage works for me now.:badpc:

Ah so I am not alone with this problem. Yep, I get the "you must install..." message EVERY TIME I log in. I have been having a lot of crash problems since.

Thanks for posting the old version info - I will try that tomorrow.

Guys, I love you so much! Thanks for all the support. This is why I have grown to absolutely love the VMK community. I will be sure to try your suggestions ASAP! But for tonight, I'll just let my frustration sink in a bit more. Should make my letters to Disney all the better ;)

I have the same problem too. Right now I am trying to find a way to "roll back" the version of shockwave to an earlier version. If anyone finds out how, please post it here.

I have downloaded it a couple times but it never changed anything. I still get the install message everytime I log in. I just click cancel and everything is fine.

Cyre, you and others who, like myself installed the newer Shockwave, don't have to do this all the time.

The first time in Pal, when you had it download, it overlaid the new Shockwave with the old.

But even nicer, is when you see that box on Pal again (and each subsequent time you attempt to log in)? You DO NOT NEED to click the okay or cancel. Instead just click the "X" to close that warning window and it continues very smoothly right on to the login screen!

I figure I will just keep clicking the "X" on the warning box, until VMK closes, then will reinstall the newer shockwave again.

Arg I am glad I am not the only one with this problem! That shockwave update has really thrown a nice wrench into a lot of different things for me. I think I will try mint's suggestion to uninstall and then just go back to the previous version of shockwave. Has VMK just not updated to the new shockwave yet? or is it a bad shockwave version?

Maybe a System Restore (Windows) back to a time before Shockwave might work? Has anybody tried this? (System Restore doesn't delete any personal files; it removes software and other changes you might have made to your computer.) Just make sure your Restore Point is recent, otherwise you might lose something you like. And, System Restore is reversible in case it doesn't do any good.

Start -->Programs --> Accessories -->System Tools --> System Restore

I also have the same issue. I just hit cancel and then login just fine. Because it works I have not bothered trying to fix it yet.

Yup, same here. I have been hitting Cancel each time. I thought I was the only one getting this annoying pop-up. It's good to know that we're in this together.

And thanks for the warning! It's been tempting to hit that download button, but I've been too lazy as of late :)
