Warning- daily safety and security room check

There’s a latch on the door that will prevent them from “just coming in” if you don’t answer quick enough. When in the room, I always have it on. I will let them in, but keep it on so that it doesn’t catch me off guard.

This works great if you don't have a member of your group out of the room.

Didn't we have a post on second or third one of these posts that they are stating they are doing the checks on the doorhanger? Oh yeah and why is this the 4th post about this- especially since there is a sticky? All it is now is a vehicle for complaints and paranoia. The WDW company is not trolling the boards looking for advice on their security checks. Write a complaint. I don't understand why everytime there is a slink dog dash/F&W replicant post it's immediately fixed and removed -yet here we are.......

So do the majority of people going to WDW stop and check the DISboards? And I, personally, know I don't usually read the fine print on the door hanger. When a hotel has a major change in policy implementation, it would be a courtesy to the guest to let them know.

This works great if you don't have a member of your group out of the room.

It works great even if you do have someone out of the room.

I have travelled frequently in groups sharing rooms and always use the latch no matter how many people are away. They can knock and someone will leave them in.

If someone is napping and simply cannot be woken then we just would agree not to come back in the room until after nap time.

I’m sure there are some rare exceptions, but I always suggest leaving the latch on anyways.

People make this way more complicated than it really is. Are Disney inconsistent? Yep, about many things. Just go in assuming you will have a room check every day while you are in the room. That way when it happens you are prepared and when it doesn't happen it is an nice little bonus.

I don't know how people manage to function on a daily basis if this kind of non-issue causes them anxiety.

Who has expressed anxiety or not being able to function? With some reports of hotel workers barging in it is not "making things complicated" to discuss how best to handle showering, bathroom use, naps, sex, and when some of the group is occupying the room and some of the group is not. No one should have to be on edge or "prepared" in a hotel room upwards of several hundred dollars a night. We don't live in a police state.

This policy is not a problem in most cases. Until it is. I don't think most people are expecting a problem. It is just a discussion, no more, no less.

Uh ... you are aware that there is a manually-operated tool that can pop that latch from the outside in about 5 seconds, if it's engaged? The CM only has to knock, encounter that latch when they try to open the door, then they just have to use that tool and they will be able to open the door. There is no such thing as "locking them out until you answer".

Just about every thread on this subject is blown out of proportion. I remember one that started with a multi-page letter that was being sent to Disney that included this posters "4th amendment being violated" which only demonstrated how little the guy knew about how the constitution works.

A thread somewhere, I can't remember if it was here or not, inquired about portable security systems so it goes off if security enters the room when they aren't there.

Other posters talking about not wanting "strange men" in their room which just shows a level of paranoia that is over the line between hinged and unhinged in my opinion.

Would your family be opposed to staying offsite to prevent that happening? It sounds like there are a lot of nice roomy condos/homes that could accommodate a large family & save you a LOT of money too....

No the entire family wants to be onsite for this trip. And even though we all get along I'm afraid that everyone( 14 total) being together in one house/condo for a week might just be too much on everyone, and no one wants to be miserable at the happiest place on earth lol. Also if we were offsite we would need 4 rental vehicles since we are all flying down and back. And two of my children and their families have never been to Disney so I think onsite for their first visit would be best.

My DS,DDIL, 2DGS and myself drove for their first trip and stayed in a 2 bedroom timeshare condo( free thanks to DIL parents). Their second trip they flew and stayed at the Poly renting DVC points and they were hooked. My son said that is the only way he is going from now on flying and staying onsite lol. We were gonna rent points and stay at the Poly(my dream resort BTW) but not all members can afford that and they all want to stay in the same resort so the grandkids can go swimming together.
Each family is paying their own way and agreed that we would all stay in a value resort and since I have stayed at POP twice that's the one we chose.

Maybe just maybe one day I'll get to stay at the Poly. And just an FYI I was invited to go on the trip that they stayed at the Poly but I wanted them to have their own family vacation/memories without me towing along and that was hard to do with them dangling my dream resort over my head lol.

Just because a tool exists doesn’t mean Disney is providing said tool to CM’s on a regular basis either. I know such a tool exists because we were staying at a hotel on Clearwater Beach and the balcony door got jammed with us outside and the latch on the interior hallway door. We spoke to some other people on the next balcony and they got in touch with the front desk, who used “the tool” to enter our room so they could address the issue with the balcony door and let us back in. But I think using such a tool would remain the responsibility of someone in management, not a random housekeeper. I do not believe they are being carried around on the housekeeping carts or anything like that.

It’s good to be aware of the possibility that the door could be opened while at the same time being realistic that the odds of it actually happening are very small.

Just wanted to say, I am currently at the Omni Hotel in Atlanta by SunTrust Park to attend the Red Sox Braves game, go Sox. I was in the hall waiting for my husband when a man in a suit knocked on the door across from us. He said, hotel security as he knocked. When no one answered, he entered the room and was out in less than a minute. When he came out I talked with him about the room checks. He told me all Omni resorts do it everyday. They do it regardless if a housekeeper has been in the room or not. It is usually done in the evening. He did knock several times before entering. He also had a list of rooms that he checked off. He asked to look in our room and I gladly opened the door for him and he told us to enjoy the game.
