I had a reservation for WL and my TA changed it to AKL AP rate the day the rates came out. I checked my Visa bill Friday and WDW had credited my deposit to my account instead of transfering the deposit. I contacted my TA and she was able to re-instate my reservation. She was just checking all her files as this had happened to 2 other of her clients. WDW had a computer glitch that did not transfer all deposits. So, call and check yours. I am glad I did as it would not have been fun to show up with DD and have no room!:earseek:

It is my understanding from seeing this discussed many times, that WDW reservations cannot "transfer" credit card payments when ressies are switched. They have to refund you and recharge you if you are issued a new ressie number. They can for some reason transfer the payment if it is made by check, but for some reason NOT by credit card. It has always been like this for them and they have told me on at least one occasion that this was how their computer system works. Also (and I have never had exp with this one) I have heard they cannot transfer package money from a credit card to a room only reservation. Basically if your ressie number changes and you paid with a credit card they will credit you back and recharge you. If you pay with a check they will be able to transfer it.
This was no glitch in their system, and your travel agent should call and have someone clarify to avoid this happening to clients in the future. Glad you got it all worked out and got your room!!

this seems to be one of those "rules" that change from time to time:rolleyes: in the past 2 years i have paid my deposit for my room only reservation for 2 different trips with my cc , then changed my resorts in order to get the AP rate. both times my deposit was transferred to the new ressie without a problem. however, this past spring when i tried to do the same thing, i was told they had to refund me the initial deposit and charge me again on my cc , so this is what we did. i never had a problem though with any of my ressies being cancelled. i have a ressie for this nov/dec and changed it once again to get the AP rate and had to change resorts again too, and this time they said they'd transfer the money over(it was on my cc again), i said i thought they couldn't do that anymore but was told , "well, i just did it!". i have my new confirmation and my cc deposit was indeed transferred:D so...definately check your confirmation or call if you don't get one, but they can and will transfer your deposit over. i wonder if it makes a difference if you have booked through a travel agent?

Maybe it depends on what kind of access the person you are talking to has with the computer? Maybe those who are higer up have the access to do these transfers. I have tried to do it four times since 1998 and have never been able to do it unless I was keeping the same ressie number. I guess it is just like the info you get when you call, different for each CM you talk to!!

I don't think the CRO CM's can transfer CC payments, but Guest Relations has done it for me a few times. In fact, my payments for my October trip were transferred twice. Once when I got an AP rate at the Poly (I was nearly fully paid at WL), then back again to WL when I was able to get a BAT code. Each time Guest Relations handled the details. Not one dime was credited back. Since the BAT code gave a pretty good discount, I have a nice fat credit waiting for my family to "eat up" in a few weeks.

How do you get a hold of Guest Relations as opposed to CRO?

I had 4 different ressies for this coming trip, when the AP code came out, I called CRO and they where able to put me on hold and have guest relations make the transfer! We never had any problems with this! I will say that when I asked if this could be done, she the CM told me that she didn't think so, so we where both pleasantly surprised when it went on without a hitch! Just ask your CRO CM to check with guest relations if there is a problem!

Have a GREAT trip!

This time surprised me because this summer my TA had no trouble transferring deposits when I changed to AP rate.

I'm using Your Magical Journeys for my December trip, and she transferred my deposit when AP rates- I never saw a credit/charge for the new amt. When you get your paper confirmation from WDW in the mail it should say something like "modified reservation" -Steph

and had no problems transfering my deposit for CR to Poly. I go t abit nervous as I haven't received my confirmation letter, so I just called and after a few hairy moments all is in order. The CM was very charming and really got things in order.
Now all I need to do is pack!!!

I don't know how it all works but I had a room only ressie that I had a credit card deposit for and then then later the same day I changed my hotel and they just transferred my deposit to the new ressie. This just happened at the end of August so it was pretty recent.

I switched resorts - but my ressies are through a travel agent. I just checked my Credit Card, and it looks like the difference of the hotels were charged. Everything must have been transferred over.

I never considered changing ressies even being an issue. I changed ours from the Pop to POFQ (great AP rate;) ) and they had no problem changing the deposit.

I called back today to check because we didn't get a confirmation yet, but everything is just fine.

Sounds like it depends who you talk to.

Maybe it depends on if you are switching resorts?

Maybe the person doing it just didn't know how to do it properly. I had to reschedule due to Ivan and they transferred my cc deposit over to the new reservation no problem; but it was same resort and they even kept the same reservation number. I have verified since that they did indeed transfer the deposit.

We have ended up switching resorts while at WDW and they have also transferred deposits no problem. I think the problem may lie in that there are CM's who know how to do it and those who don't; maybe you got someone new.

Glad that you caught it, it pays to always double check your reservations after you've made any changes! I always call back a little while later just to have the CM's verify what my ressie says to be safe.

Not only have they been able to transfer my ressie, they were also able to cancel my sister's ressie and transfer HER deposit to my ressie :) This was very beneficial for both of us because I just paid her the money. Because we are from Canada, she would have lost money on the refund because they don't credit back the 2.5 % surcharge she originally paidon the cc, and I of course would have paid that extra 2.5% for the extra cost on my cc.

We are going to do this again soon, because I was able to rent points for VWL and I still have my ressie for WL. I want to transfer my deposit to my siser, and she will just buy US $ to give to me to replace it. Saves $$$ for both of us. I guess if I get someone in CRO that says I cannot do this, I'll just call back until I get someone who will :p

Ilove stitch- Magical Journeys is who I used too.
I had a new confirmation number , but if I hadn't checked might have been out of luck.
