Warning - Ant invasion at BWV

Ants, I can totally handle....but big giant roaches....eewww!!!!

I have cats, and the ONLY bug my cats don't want to eat is roaches...if a cat won't even touch them!!!

In my college days, I waited tables at a VERY famous chain of restaurants. I had "typical TEXAS big-hair" with a LOT of hairspray in it. A giant roach fell from a rafter in the exposed beam ceiling, and got caught in the hairspray of my "very over-sprayed hair"!!! I just about pee'd my pants before I could get that thing out!!! Customers were laughing SOOO hard (it was a VERY casual restaurant with mainly men...so, no one seemed at ALL grossed out by the fact that a GIANT roach just fell from the ceiling into my hair.....they all just thought it was funny to see me scream bloody murder!!). But, then again....this WAS Texas....and, you know..everything is bigger in Texas...even the roaches!!!!

But...I think I will buy some ant traps when I am there!!! I will add that to my shopping list!!!

OMG :eek: I would have had a heart attack! This past summer, we were leaving Fort Wilderness, via the boat, back to the Magic Kingdom. I got about halfway down the dock when I noticed a couple of bugs crawling ahead of me. I started slowly walking farther down the dock and noticed some more. I stopped and turned around to go back, and noticed they were behind me also. I went to hold onto the railing and they were all over that too! I was having a fit! I ended up waiting for the boat, the whole time I'm trying to keep my eyes on the dock, making sure none got near me. That boat too forever to get there! I couldn't believe the other people, waiting, were so nonchalant about all the ROACHES crawling all over. One even crawled onto a girl's foot (she was wearing flipflops) and she didn't flinch. It was crawling all over her toes....yuck! After that trip, I won't be going back to Trail's End. :(

I got back from OKW a few weeks ago and also had an ant problem -- and there was no food in the room whatsoever (none visible with the human eye at least). It was mainly limited to the morning hours and was not that big a deal. There were however huge lizards everywhere. These things could easily be classified as small iguanas. And then the baby frogs came out. They were very very small. I thought I was in a wildlife park with all the animals and creatures I saw. Being in Florida, I guess I was in a wildlife park after all :)

I just returned from WDW. I stayed at my daughter's townhome which is located behind MK. We, too, had a TERRIBLE problem with ants. We were told it's because of the hurricanes--that all the water in the ground has forced the critters out. I can't swear that this is true but it does sound possible.

Most types of ants are harmless. In my old house, we had them invade our kitchem sometimes. DH would want to use pesticides, but I just swept them back out the door.

Someone asked about mice -- they are more of a problem than ants as they will leave dropping on kitchen counters, which is a real health hazard. (Mostly a risk of salmonella, I hear.)

Went to a hotel in Tahiti where the rooms only had 3 walls; the 4th wall was just a shutter you could roll down when it rained. We got lizards in our underwear and crabs on the ceiling!

Florida = bugs.

Wait 'till you see the palmetto bugs. When one crosses your path, you address it as "Sir."

Yea! It's funnier when they talk back :teeth: .

We just returned home from our trip and were surprised to find this thread. We also were at the BWV during the same time but one floor above. We didn't see the ants personally while in our studio, but met them a few days later when I opened up the duffle bag that we had used while staying there. (I was planning on doing some laundry at POR before our drive home.) The ants SWARMED out, and were quite ticked off. Surprised the heck out of me, and proceded to bite!

I'll follow up a little more once I catch up on sleep, but I wanted to comment to give everyone a heads up. (Also, our ants must have been in the closet, as that's where the bag sat during our stay.)
