Warning about pizza delivery

When we were at BWV a couple of weeks ago they had a notice on each of the phones in our 2 bedroom not to give out personal information such as credit card numbers if you did not initiate the call. It had some additional info which I didn't pay much attention to.

Maybe this is how they are cracking down. I thought it was odd at the time but now I understand.

I saw the notices placed right on top of the phone this weekend at BWV, they were also next to the phone at SSR at Thanksgiving.

I have a couple of pizza places bookmarked on my computer(need the menus) and more than likely call them or if at SSR go to WP Express to grab a pizza.

The day we checked into BWV last week, a security person was checking for these flyers. We never had one shoved under our door, so that was good.

Thanks for this information! I was amazed to think that WDW would allow the menus to be distributed. We assumed they were sneaking in, which is disturbing enough, but had no idea it was part of a scam.

I don't think WDW is allowing it, the people are just doing it.

This may have been posted before, and if I'm repeating something I apologize.

My friend was staying at SSR over the weekend and when she came back to her room the first night there was a pizza delivery menu shoved under her door. She didn't think anything of it, just stuck in on the counter. The next morning she had a problem with her door lock, and called the maintenance guys. When the repairman came in, he saw the ad and said: "You didn't call those guys, did you?" My friend said no, and he said: "Good, because it's a scam. Notice there is no address on the page? The number goes to a pre-paid cell phone. They take your credit card number for the pizza order, and you never get a pizza. We're trying to crack down on them, but they keep sneaking in from Downtown and shoving these things under the doors." He asked if he could take the ad and give it to the office. Of course, she gave it to him.

Bottom line-don't order pizza-or anything else from a menu shoved under your door!

I recall some of them as legitimate pizza places. Doesn't matter---I've got Giordano's in my cell. ;)

Wow! Thanks for the info. Heading down in the spring.
And how good is Giordano's? Do they deliver to all resorts? And what's their number? TIA

wow great to know this! I am going pretty soon and I am sure we would have ordered a pizza one of the nights!

However, if you have phoned the number on these flyers, you have initiated the call.:sad2: The damage has been done.

This reminded me. We had a sign like this too at SSR in Nov.

We got two on the same night under our door at All Stars in January -- I didn't even pay any attention to it.

I will say though when we pulled into Grand Floridian one day I noticed a no solicitations sign on the security booth - I asked the lady at the guard gate if they had alot of solicitors and she said they have alot of problem with pizza places wanting to distribute flyers.

Seriously though even if they managed to keep them out through the security gate there is nothing stopping anyone from getting to resorts via bus, boat, monorail, or foot.

Exactly! We got one under our door at SSR last week, too. I never even looked at it...we don't order pizza at WDW. ;) And I frequently check my credit card account. Thanks for the info, everyone...it's amazing what people will do. :(

I got a flyer under my door at both OKW and at Marriott when I was down at Christmas. What a shock to hear it's a scam!:scared1:

I'm not sure of the exact wording - just thought it was odd since I've never seen it before at WDW. They were definitely trying to warn people as it was on all 3 phones.

Do they only take credit cards or can you pay cash upon delivery? Is their pizza that good and could you please post the phone numnber or PM me thanks Brian.

Thanks for the heads-up. As a victim of fraud in the past I try to be as careful as possible. I'll have to check out Giordano's--I'm always looking for good pizza!

Thanks for the heads up. I often buy pizza the night I arrive because it is to late to go out and eat. :thumbsup2

I'm sure a lot of the flyers out there are legit. There apparently is at least one that is a scam though. Don't think that every food service place is a scam.

I have poted on security issues in the past.

DVC is great but it is not a perfect world.Far worse things have happened at Disney than bogus menus.
Thieves, perverts, and other evil doers are drawn to Disney like moths.
Bad things can happen if you are not careful.
I am amazed how careless people are in Disney.
Leaving valuables on beach chairs for hours to save a spot by the pool.Allowing young children to wander out of sight.allowing unescorted young children go back to hotel rooms alone. The list goes on and on.
An example of this is about four years ago.
I was sititng by the pool at BWV and a complete strager asked me to "keep an eye" on her 5 yo daughter while she went back to room!I was a single man not with family, drinking a beer and this woman left her little girl with me!!
It seems to me that a person going door to door at SSR should be easy to spot.If you observe someone doing this call security. If you see some one you think is up to no good call security.Don't let it pass because you are in Disney and think everyone there is as honest as you are.

Do not think for a moment that bad people do not fequent Disney.

if you want food delivered ask the front desk for reccomendations.
You will get good food and know it is from a trusted place.

It gives a cheap feel to find a few of these stuck under the door of the room and it's trespassing. Even if they're not scamming people, a legit business doesn't tell workers to go where they're not allowed.

the real point of this should be what is dvc doing about this, if i wanted anyone roaming around near my room i would not have spent the money on a timeshare that allows this blatant misuse of this resort as easily as disney does
