Warning about multiple PS for the same meal on the same day

The following is debster's opinion only (Hiya Ted  ;) ).

I saw your question last night, and was looking for a thread I read last week, about someone who had tried to make a dessert only PS at California Grill (I think) and was told no. That being said, perhaps Disney Dining does not want to take PS's for dessert only, especially at peak times.

But like TedandHolly said, you really should get this straight from the source from Disney Dining.

And I can totally see Disney trying to cut down on the chronic 'double dippers' NOT the folks needing contingency plans for extenuating circumstances (ie the 4th of July).

There was a thread a week or so ago about how someone had been refused a dessert only PS. Was that your thread? Sounds like it was tough.

That wasn't my thread. I didn't even see it. That does sound tough.

I remember that thread. It was for dessert at Yachtsman Steakhouse. Here's the link.

Beattyfamily beat me to it. Finally just found it.

My post said called a dessert only PS possibly abusive. It's not clear if it's against Disney rules for most restaurants although some like CG and France don't allow for dessert only seating. Disney may not have an official position, but I think the practice could be considered abusive.

If the restaurant isn't busy, you get there after dinner hours, I wouldn't think most restaurants would object to a coffee and dessert seating. The fact that someone sees the need to make a dessert only PS implies they are trying to go when the restaurant is busy enough to require a PS which would make less tables available for guests who want to go to a restaurant at dinner time to actually eat dinner. Most of the character meals are buffets or pre-plated meals where going for dessert only isn't an option.

I'd think the new meal plan may increase the demand for sit down meals and require Disney to tighten up on multiple PS and non-meal seatings.

I suppose now we know why it is so hard to get in at some of these restaurants.
So, I'm glad Disney is cracking down.

glad to see that i have not gotten flamed!! If i do book 2 I will be sure to cancel the later one if i get the 1st one. I am no longer on the meal plan since I just switched to an AP rate, so to be honest I am less concerned about contingency. Life does not end if we end up grabbing counter service at a different park or the resort! With the meal plan, a switch like that could cause a bigger problem.

Since you already have an AP, consider getting a DDE(Disney Dining Experience) membership for your trip. Even though you probably won't be able to use the discount on July 4th(I think there is a holiday blackout on that date?), in my experience that 20% discount really adds up *quickly*.

agnes!

I suspect this may have to do with the popularity of the MYW dining plan. Imagine calling for PSs a few weeks out (as most people probably do who aren't obsessed and know exactly where there will eat nine months out like we are) and being on the plan and then being told that none of your choices had openings. If the plan is popular, it will be harder to get PSs, harder to walk in, and Disney will be in the very uncomfortable position of not being able to provide what these people paid for.

I've been wondering when those kind of problems would come up. When I took my first Disney trip (DL in '03) I started planning 2 months out. Somehow I knew to make a PS at Goofy's Kitchen right away. I made PS for Ariel's Grotto and the Minnie & Friends breakfast once I got there. I NEVER would have dreamed that I needed to make a bunch of PSs to be able to eat. I think that is how most people who buy a package with the dining plan will be. They'll show up at WDW and start trying to make PS.

Heck even in the Unofficial Guide, one of the first steps in each park touring plan is to stop and make a PS for your meal later that day!
