Warning about multiple PS for the same meal on the same day

This from Mouse Planet (hope it's okay to quote here):

"We are hearing that the Disney Reservations Center (DRC) is cracking down on people who try to book multiple priority seating requests for different restaurants for the same meal on the same day. It has long been against Disney policy to allow guests to hold multiple reservations for the same time period. Under a new quality control campaign, agents are being trained in checking out guest records when they suspect unfair booking practices. If they find overbookings, the DRC cancels priority seatings and contact the guest to inform them. This may not happen to everyone with multiple reservations, as agents does not do the research unless they suspect overbooking abuse, but it is an additional factor to beware of if this has been your practice in the past."

I admit that I did make a 4 pm PS for the Fantasmic Dinner Package, and a 6 pm PS at the same restaurant, with hopes of linking the 6pm to the FDP later on. A CM saw that and I explained that I hadn't decided which I wanted and she had no problem with it; she just reminded me that there would be a charge if I didn't cancel the FDP within 48 hours prior.

I'm glad they are cracking down. I don't think it's right to hold PS's for more than one restaurant while you're trying to decide which one you want.

I agree. I wouldn't even consider making more than one PS, as it seems unfair to me.

Wow, the things that you learn. I had never even thought of doing that! I have enough trouble choosing and arranging one sit-down a day without having an option of two at-a-time.

I haven't read any posts in a LONG time about people overbooking but I remember when I would go on a different WDW forum a few years ago that there were those who bragged about having multiple p.s.'s in various parks for the same time so they could decide once they got there. Other than the meals that require a credit card I don't think Disney expects a p.s. to be set in stone if you don't feel up to the meal that you had planned but grabbing multiple p.s.'s for the same time? Just my opinion but I don't think that's really fair to other guests who really want to dine at that restaurant if you don't cancel your p.s.

So I guess that means that you can't go for supper and one restaurant and dessert at another?

Here's a question: What if we split up? DD and I go to one place and DH and DS go to another at the same time on the same day...We go to CRT and they go to Donald's for example?

Well, correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't you be making two PS for two people as opposed to two PS for four people? In that case, if they see that your whole party is divided up I'm sure they would allow it.

Thanks! I will make the ones for DH and DS under DH's name too so that should help. I wouldn't be happy if they deleted a ps and assumed I was double booking.

That's a good idea, too, so that Disney can see both PS. Have a great trip! :)

I am prepared for the flames but I am seriously considering doing this for July 4th even if I have to use a different name. My concern is that I want to make a PS in the park but Disney will not guarantee you can get into the park. As July 4th is one of the days they potential close off parks for overcrowding i could be left without a PS. I was thinking about making what i want early (5pm) and then having a back-up at my resort or a nearby resort for 7pm. In my opinion if they have sold me tickets that expire, sold me a meal plan that ends when I leave, and can't committ to me that I can get to my PS, I have ever right to have a contingency.

I'll bet they really aren't looking for the person that does it once but the people who do it for every meal the whole time they are there. I'll bet there are people who make 2 sets of PS so that they'll be covered no matter what they want to do.

The thing I always wondered was, wouldn't it be so easy to see that someone has done it. When I call for a PS they pull up my records and all of my PS are right there for them to see. They must have been looking the other way for a long time and just got sick of the repeat offenders.

Sounds absolutely fair, having been there one 4th of July years ago I can totally understand - however, might I suggest that you take a moment to cancel the one you don't use. I'm thinking about how on the Disney Cruise I was on last year, reservations for the adult only restaurant Palo were hard to come by - however, midweek our server said that there were a great many where the folks simply did not show up, and did not call so that they could instead book with folks on the waiting list, leaving empty tables and folks that never got to experience Palo's because folks didn't want to pick up the phone and cancel. :sad2:

I don't know if they "hold" tables for long like that at Disney - we hardly ever make any PS's before we go down (DVC members - if we can't get one the morning of, we eat in the villa, especially as DH is a professional chef - and to be honest we've never once had a problem getting it the morning of...). It just seems "fair" to me that if you have a contingency like this, that you free the table for others that might need it, you know? :sunny: (and I guess I don't mean YOU in particular, but "folks in general" who might take the same steps...)

A few years ago, we had about 5 people calling for CRT. Well, 2/5 got in and made ps- under different last names. It was for 12 people. ANyway, within 30 minutes a cm had called my brother to see if we were the same party b/c we were both from AL and both for 12 people. We were certainly going to cancel one that morning, but were in the process of trying to get everyone in our party on the phone to discuss which time we wanted. It was just weird. If we had had the same last name maybe, but it was two last names. We told her we were trying to decide and she was OK with that, and yes, we called within an hour to cancel the one we didn't want. It took that long to get everyone on the phone b/c they were still staying on hold- I guess holding out hope b/c they didn't know we got in! princess:

I can totally support this action that Disney is making to cut down on those who abuse the system. I don't buy this make two PSs so you can decide which time you want, even temporarily. I spent a lot of time planning for my trip so I will know exactly what I want to book and at what time. Everyone else has the same opportunity and shouldn't need to double book.

However, I still have a question that I asked upthread. So, you can't have a dinner PS and then a dessert PS at another restaurant?

I wouldn't flame you for that. Your concern is if Disney prevents you from using your park PS, the abuse is people who want to book multiple PS until they decide what they want and possibly people making dessert only PS. I'd have a different response if Disney guaranteed park admission to guests with PS but they don't.

Ask the 5:00 ps restaurant to cancel your 7:00p PS. It'll help others.

I don't think there would be a big problem with that. Wouldn't it be at different times? I think they are looking at p.s. at the same times.

I'm not trying to incite a debate but is there a problem with making a dessert only PS? I've asked twice and no one has responded.

Unless you have a Dining CM reply, anything you get on this will just be opinion, really.

You may be required to leave a credit card deposit for the 4th, depending on what restaurants you book. JFI
