ITA. When these stories were written it was far more likely, due to deaths in childbirth, for a child to lose a mother than a father. Thus the stories were written wrt the life that was common at the time.

Really? I didn't know that Lilo and Stitch, Nemo, or Hebie (w/Lindsay) came from "classic" tales. Granted, a lot of Disney movies are based on childrens literary or folklore classics, but I think it is more than just coincidence.

My thoughts exactly. I mean, sure, OB was attractive in POTC 1, but he looked so young I felt a little bit dirty for thinking that. Not any more.

Ok, whether or not Will is free from the spell at the end, I have a question. The curse was only 10 years at sea...1 day on land. It said nothing about seeing your wife, right? Well, put him in a bucket and tote him up to the house! Or...geeeez...buy a HOUSEBOAT, Elizabeth! I mean, she is the Pirate King...why wouldn't she be on the sea almost all of the time?

Actually the curse was to ferry the dead for ten years...so he was not in the land of the living ....DJ stopped ferrying and roamed the sea (therefore turning into a squid guy)...Will did his duty in order to come back

I was so lost when I watched the film. Thanks for clearing it up for me. I had no idea Davy jones was supposed to be ferrying the dead. I have to watch POTC 2 again and then go back to the movies and see the third one so I can understand it all!

I saw the movie for the first time on Saturday....I just saw it again last night and after reading everyones posts, the movie makes SOOOO much more sense! I felt I was able to sit back and enjoy more since I had such a clear understanding of everything that was going on. I went with a few friends who were seeing it for the first time and they were calling me their "Pirates guru" since I was able to answer all of their questions about the movie! LOL! So to all who shared their thoughts/opinions, thank you....and to those who have only seen it once, go see it again! You will love it even more!!

Before I went to see 3, I watched 1 again, but not 2
...so I watched 2 again last night and I can't believe how many things I didn't remember from 2...so now, after watching 2 again and reading the boards here, I think I'm going to go see 3 again, I think it will make a TON more sense this time. Savvy?

Once 3 comes out on DVD, I think it'll be a great movie night trilogy to watch all together.

Well, the kids talked me into going to the drive-in tonight to see Shrek the Third. I wasn't all too thrilled until they said that Pirates is the second feature. So I replied with....ALL RIGHT!!!

So now I get to see Pirates again for the second time. I'm looking forward to seeing it in a different experience. Haven't been to the drive-in in a couple years...Yippee!!!! I'm coming Captain Sparrow!!! Wait for me!!

Well, DH talked me into seeing Pirates AWE for the 4th time, tonight, twist my arm I watched potc 1 and 2 this week, and I just can't get sick of seeing this trilogy over and over again. I had to convert DH to a Disney fan a few years ago, and now he a true fan.

Someone earlier asked why Tia Dalma/Calypso wasnt waiting for Davy Jones when he came back. During the second time I saw the movie I noticed a line that TD/Calypso says that Davy locked away his heart, so maybe she felt betrayed by him by the fact that he HID his heart from her, he buried it as opposed to Will who loved and trusted Liz enough to give her his heart from the begining.
