Warm socks that aren't itchy?

Any suggestions? I just got an awesome pair of Keen boots that are waterproof & fairly warm, but I still need some better socks to wear with them beyond my basic white cotton socks. I've looked at SmartWool socks, but they are still fairly itchy to me. I really need something with a bit of cushioning, warm, and soft.

I got some really warm socks at Sam's Club, but I don't remember the brand. They were itchy until I washed them. Silly me wore them first because my feet were really cold the day I got them.

Wigwams. Better than Smart Wool and super warm. I worked retail and took all kinds of training and loved the Wigwams best. Sent some to my mom who is a nurse and those are all she will wear now.

It's not a good idea to wear cotton socks in cold weather. If they get wet, from snow or your feet sweating, they'll absorb the moisture but your feet will stay wet and cold. Your best bet is a wool blend or a synthetic material like polypropylene.

I would buy boot socks made for hiking or skiing/snowboarding. You can get them at an outdoor or sporting goods store. I like the Thorlo brand and also just got some new Columbia ones that are nice and soft.

I love the socks they get in every winter at Sam's. I just bought 3 packs of them a few days ago.

I have some Redhead hunting socks from Bass Pro that are awesome. Very thick though - I have to wear my shoes 1/2 size big or REALLY loosen my laces to wear them. But, they are very, very warm & not itchy at all!

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I think I'm going to get a pair of Wigwams & maybe a pair from Columbia to try out & go from there.

I am allergic to and cannot wear wool anything.

One solution I have used, especially when it is really cold or when hiking, is to layer my socks -- a silk or synthetic thin liner sock (they make purpose-made liner socks), and then an appropraitely thicker sock over it.
