We had travelled up to London by train the previous day and had spent a very pleasant time looking round Harrods, having a lovely meal at the Rainforest Café, trawling round numerous other shops and going on the London Eye in the dark which was a fantastic experience.
After an early night we all slept well and were at the Eurostar check-in an hour before our train left, thank goodness, because it was utter pandemonium there! It was much much busier than it had been when we went in August!
We eventually boarded and were the only ones in our coach until Ashford when a couple of other families joined us. Breakfast was the same as last time, fromage frais, cheesy omelette with a chicken sausage, baked beans and tomato, bread roll, croissant, butter and jam, and an apple plus tea, coffee, hot chocolate, soft drinks, water etc. The only difference was the serviette was a Christmassy one! However I spied a couple of trays with some delicious looking fresh fruit on and when I enquired I was told they were vegetarian breakfasts and because the passengers had not turned up we were offered them. The vegetarian breakfast is identical to the standard one except they substitute the omelette, sausage, beans and tomato for this luscious fruit. I know I will be definitely be ordering a veggy breakfast next time!
The journey passed uneventfully and we soon arrived. Again, the excitement just hits you as you alight at the station, you are finally back at Disney!!!
We made our way to catch the no. 54 bus, we knew exactly where to go now and in no time we were at the Explorers. Luckily our room was ready so we unpacked, put up our little Christmas tree that we had bought for £2.47 from Tesco, had a quick cuppa and freshened up and headed back to the parks.
This is the third time we have been to a Disney park and I don't think I will ever tire of this feeling like we are coming home!!!
Wow, I just love that first sight of the Disneyland Hotel and once we were through the turnstiles we saw all the lovely decorations and there was Father Christmass sledge and carol singers in the bandstand!!!
So Christmassy!!!!!
We got to the parks just before the Christmas parade started so took advantage of this and headed straight to Fantasyland where we rode Its a Small World and Snow White and then over to Adventureland where we did Pirates of the Caribbean twice.
We had booked tickets for tonight for the Magical World of Tinkerbell Dinner Show so we decided we ought to make our way over to the Newport Bay Hotel for this. We had been advised to get there an hour before as seating is allocated on a first come first served basis. We wandered through the Village, this was a first for us, the last time we hadnt got farther than the Steakhouse! As we reached Lake Disney the Minnie train turned up so we thought What the heck, were on holiday!, and decided to ride it over to the hotel!
My first reaction to the Newport Bay was My goodness, this place is huge! but it seemed a lovely hotel. Bryan staked out our place at the front of the queue and the girls and I browsed through the shop to fill the time, not exactly an ordeal!
We were allocated our own table at the front to the left of the stage. This gave us all a fantastic view! Dinner was served first. The adults menu was salmon marinated with dill and horseradish cream, followed by roasted veal with mushrooms, potato gratin and vegetables, then yule log with red berry coulis, with unlimited wine and coffee or tea. The childrens menu was smoked salmon cannelloni with fine herbs and cucumber cream, followed by veal parmentier with meat glaze, then an ice cream dessert in the shape of a Christmas tree.
Psst!!!
Apart from the smoked salmon that Danielle loves, my girls would all rather have had chicken nuggets and chips, although they loved their dessert!
Bryan and I both thought our food was absolutely delicious although given the choice I wouldnt choose veal.
Before the meal had finished Father Christmas visited the room and we were entertained by a violinist. Then the show started!
Wow, it was fantastic! Tinkerbell was so enchanting and it was all our favourite characters Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, Goofy, and Danielles especial favourites, Chip and Dale! They visited the circus, the carnival, Africa, Ireland, Russia and ended up at the North Pole doing various acrobatic feats, jigs, sambas and cossack dancing along the way! This was a wonderful show and it was very hard to keep a dry eye, especially at the end when a silhouette of the castle was projected on stage. We had kept this a big surprise from the girls right up until we turned up at the hotel as Danielle had been 11 the week before and it was sort of a birthday treat for her that we could all enjoy.
Sadly, it finished all too soon and we made our way out of the hotel. It was a very mild night and I couldnt help wondering if I had wasted money buying us all thermals!
The lake looked very beautiful in the dark with the reflections of all the lights on it.
We walked over to the Village and surprise surprise hit the shops, buying lots of Christmas tree decorations! Then back to the hotel for a good nights sleep for tomorrow is Christmas Eve!!!
