Just wanted to say that on our recent trip a few weeks ago, we went against most reviews and ate at Sci-Fi and T-Rex and absolutely loved them!!!! So dont be affraid to try new things just because some reviews are bad.....some ppl dont like CM and I for one do. Take chances and enjoy the selection!

We had the same experience on our last trip with 1900 PF. Not just because of the characters either. By far, it was right there with one other restaurant as being our favorite food. It was delicious and the character interaction was the best. If I had gone on reviews alone, we might not have even tried the place.

I agree though with the reverse - went to Le Cellier and hated it - so I don't pay attention to what anybody else thinks I try the restaurant myself:confused3

I like to read the reviews, but I still like to try everything myself.

I love food (sadly this does not bode well for WW) and while I'd love to consider myself a foodie, my palate just isn't picky enough. I like to try different places and it is rare that I find a place where the food is just awful...although there have been some. For me, it seems that the service can put me off more than the food. So if I get good service and the atmosphere is great, sometimes I can overlook food that isn't 5 star quality.

Our next WDW trip, coming up in Oct., is all about trying new. Every restaurant on our list is a place neither us of has ever been. I can't wait to try so many new places. And I'm hoping I remember to take pictures and post a dining report.

I agree!

A particular establishment or menu might not be to someone's liking, or it just might be one of those days when all the fates are conspiring against him/her. And either of those could lead to a bad review. Deservedly so in that person's opinion, but the next person might love it all, or just not be having one of those days, and give it a huge thumbs up.

Check out the menus ahead of time to be sure there'll be something for everyone.

Remember, it's Disney, and they certainly would not leave open a restaurant that was subpar!

Just my 2cents worth.... I agree almost completely with Kelleigh1 and Walkinginthe Fog. Read the reviews, check the menus, pick the ones that appeal to you, and try them out.

Maybe you'll love 'em. Maybe you'll hate 'em. Won't know till you try them. The reviews are entertaining to read, and can give you a general idea. But reviews are just opinions, and are really valid only for the person giving them. As far as I know, none of the reviewers are professional restaurant critics.:)

On our last trip our ADRs were ONLY restaurants that we had never tried before. Only had one terrible meal (bad service + poorly prepared food). So 6 places we will enjoy going to on a future visit and one that we won't. Pretty good average.

We also like these two restaurants. While is good to know the reviews of other we still like to make up our own mind. I've found restaurants that get rave reviews are the ones we like the least.

I agree! Read the reviews, but then try the restaurant out for yourself and make your own decision! My family and I like trying out new places as well!

This is exactly what DW and I do. We will read the reviews, but often times we will try the place for ourselves and make our own decision. Some of the places that people don't like just so happen to be some of our favorites. As others have said, bad or poor service pushes us away more than bad food. Even if we do receive poor service on one trip; in all fairness, we may try the place again. It's possible service may have improved between the last time and this time. If it's constant poor service, then we stay away. We've yet to eat at any Disney restaurant that served such horrible food that we won't go back. There are some that we'd go back to more than others, but we are in the process of still trying out new places each time we go back. Next trip will be T-Rex and Yachtsman for us.

I've read a lot of reviews, and I think the restaurants have all met my expectations for the most part. Nothing was overwhelmingly bad or excellent in comparison to the reviews. There are usually some hits and misses at each place.

The only restaurant I really did not like at all was Big River Brewing Co. I thought it stunk.

same experience! always try something for yourself first - i had read a lot of negative reviews of capn jack's in dtd, so i was a little nervous about going there (my mom had picked it out) but it was a GREAT meal!

I've read reviews where people thought everything they ate was out of the world and others who thought everything they ate was garbage. I tend to read reviews that include photos! Fortunately I don't have a palate that tends to like most things!

This is how I am as well. I read tons of reviews before our last trip because the majority of our restaurant picks were new to us, but I kept an open mind the entire time. We had major hits and total flops that were unexpected but we came, we ate and we made our own decision. There were no places that we tried that we have said we will outright never try again...a few we have said let's wait awhile before we try it again but that just leaves us open to try other new places.

As I posted earlier, we ignored the reviews and were pleasantly surprised by 1900 PF. However, we also ignored the reviews on Coral Reef and found it to be iffy like so many others had found. We were so completely unimpressed! Still, I'm glad we tried it for ourselves to know. I'll keep reading those reviews and decide which place will be our next place to try for the first time.

We also tried Coral Reef. The food was good but they crammed 14 of us into two booths so it was TIGHT! The service was slow and bad but now we know and now we can try another restuarant.

I tend to like most of the places we eat in Disney both TS and QS but I found a QS place in MK that I will never go back to because I hated the food! It was some hot dog place that served a taco hotdog.....yuck lol but now I know and I will try something different next November.

I am now trying to get my ADR's together for our next trip and I so want to do the DxDP but with 17 ppl its hard but so many good places to eat! How to chose just 8  :rotfl2:

:thumbsup2 We really liked Tony's which gets so so reviews and Marakkesh which gets few reviews.

We couldn't stand CRT or Chef Mickey's which are both board favorites. :upsidedow

We also canceled ADRs ar Le Cellier twice. :rotfl2:

I think you're reading different reviews than I am! :rotfl: We've gotten positive reviews from three different people "in the real world" who have all liked Chef Mickey, but the reviews here are so incredibly BAD that we've stayed away!

For the OP, we were the same with Sci-Fi. Generally negative reviews, but saw a pattern of people saying the burgers and shakes were decent. So we went, got burgers and shakes, and really enjoyed it!!

We went to 50's Primetime on our last trip (2007) and so many people told us not to go and had really bad reviews, but it was the first meal of our trip and we really enjoyed it. I remember that I ordered the salmon and ate every last bit. My husband ordered the fried chicken and he couldn't finish it because there was so much...so I picked at it and then couldn't stop picking at it because it was so good - probably some of the best friend chicken I've ever had. I was so glad I didn't listen to everyone who told us not to bother.

We've been to Le Cellier and I don't quite get the hype. It was good, but not out of this world and I definitely wouldn't use 2TS credits on it.

We did Chef Mickey's and Crystal Palace both for breakfast. We went for the character meals mainly and chose breakfast because we don't really ever expect breakfast to be fantastic or awful. It's my favorite meal, but it's breakfast and Mickey Waffles are just great everywhere.

Yep, and even though I will chime in occasionally when someone asks an opinion on a place, I always take reviews into consideration....but decide for myself to try it.

The first few trips we "splurged" on 1or 2 character meals per trip. We got sticker shock from those, so we stuck to CS or off site for other meals. When I first discovered "free dining" I used a TA who set up all our meals. I told her we'd like a nice place in Epcot for our first day at the parks....she set us up with San Angel Inn. I almost cancelled it based on the poor reviews it was always seem to be getting..........and it was our favorite meal of the trip. Worst meals.........Garden Grill and Prime Time which tend to be popular. It wasn't that it was awful inedible food.......it was just underwhelming after all of the great stuff we had eaten that week.

Sci-Fi is a must do for us every trip DDP or not. Burgers and shakes suit us and we don't eat there expecting 5* food. We also love the atmosphere. Others hate it. The kids and I love Teppan Edo......my mother was underwhelmed by it. Her favorite meal was at the Brown Derby.....which is often classified as "not worth the price". I only book Le Cellier because my kids love it. It's a decent enough meal but I'm ready to move along and try some new places. Each trip we make a plan to repeat everyone's favorite....then add in at least 2 new places. This year we ate at a very enjoyable meal at the Gran Floridian Cafe........a place nobody talks about and my son has his new favorite, Cheese steak at the Plaza. He compares every cheese steak since then to the one at WDW.....and nobody has beaten them yet. :lmao:

regards

Minnie Mum, even professional restaurant critics can't speak for the majority of us. I have disliked very much some of the places that rate so highly in our area and vice versa. We are all different and like different foods - we would all be boring otherwise :rotfl2:. I for one can't stand Coral Reef or the German restaurant (can't think of the name). I found their weiners to be less tasty than a regular oscar meyer - and canned sauerkraut :confused3. But, that may be just the taste others love, so, whatever :yay:
