I am planning a trip to DLP for our anniversary. It looks like I will need around 50-80 extra points. I don't want to borrow any points, so I was thinking of renting them. I have read the sticky threads and I still am not quite sure how things work. So, if you could give me suggestions I would appreciate it.

Like the dos and don'ts of renting points.
What is my responsibility in all of this?
Can someone give me the run down of how things go from start to finish?
How do I find a reliable person to rent from?
Is it worth renting? or should I borrow from next year? (I only have 200 points and I don't want to use them all:scared1: )

The sticky said to get their home address, home phone number and make sure to have a contract. Is there any other suggestions on the contract? Does anyone have a sample contract?

Thanks for all your help.

be careful of who you rent from

read their other posts - so you have some idea of who you are renting from.

if there are no other posts - be very careful

I would get their home phone, address, work (if there is one) phone, email address. - cell phone if they give them out.

you main responsible is to pay the person on time and not to destroy the villa you are renting.

there are several contracts - here is a link that has some of them

I'm not expert but it sounds like you need a point transfer from another member, rather then renting points from someone and having them make the ressie for you.

I think this has a lot less risk...maybe it could go like this all in one day:

Send 1/2 of cost to other member
other member calls MS and transfers points to your account
You confirm with MS you have the points
You send the other half of the cost.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I'm sure someone else will provide the details.

Plus I believe you can only transfer points one time a year.

I agree with Todd. You need a transfer in so you can make the reservation yourself. Otherwise, if you need to use your points for some of the days and the other person will make the rest of the days, you'll have to link the reservations. And at DL, I would be concerned. They are just not as technically advanced as WDW.

You get one transfer a year, so make sure one member has enough points for the transfer in.

Remember, too, that your reservation will be using reservation points and you won't be able to cancel and use them as DVC points.

boy - they are so correct!

you need a transfer - if you can find someone willing to do it.

since DVC changed their policy only one transfer per year is allowed these days.

Brillant! Brillant! I do believe you all have your thinking caps on today!

I don't like the idea of a transfer because you only get one in a year. However, I am making a reservation with my existing points and then I would have to have another person make the reservation for me and link them. You are right, Deb, this is not WDW we are dealing with.

Now the question is.... how easy is it to get someone to transfer points to you?
If I only need around 50-80 points, should I go ahead and borrow them from next year?

Thanks guys! You always know just the right thing to say!:disrocks:
