Wanted to share my not great experience with MS regarding renting points

I mean, we sorta do this when we rent out transferred points. Aren't we all accustomed (and perhaps were told) to NOT saying that we are transferring points for a fee? Being berated is a different issue, though. I would have preferred they just tell us "don't say that, just say 'friends and family'. *wink*wink*"

For me I would never sell a transfer because the POS does specifically states that it is not allowed, no vagueness about it. I am not going to put my membership in jeopardy to sell some points.

@jolynne28 Dont let people push their own narrative on you. What works for some doesn't work for all. I have rented points and used a rental broker. Why? Because I don't like people. I dont want to be the person to deal with them, period. People suck and I would rather pay a premium to have someone else do it. Just like I CAN be my own property manager to rent my house but who wants to do that? Not many. Thats why property management companies exist.

And.... if that wasn't enough reason for the naysayers... I had 1 rental that a person cancelled and I wasn't left with an unclaimed reservation on expiring points to deal with, the broker takes on that responsibility and if it doesn't re-rent I still get paid. That very same rental the 2nd renter cancelled too! Now that reservation is on its 3rd renter, and I didn't have to stress one bit about it because it's the brokers problem, that is what I paid the premium for.

Point taken. I agree with you on transfers.

I've always said that every decision comes with unintended consequences, and here we are with rentals. I've said this elsewhere, but if it comes to the point that I can't rent out my points/reservations, I'm just going to reserve a room and let it sit empty. After all, I paid the dues - if I can't get that money back, I'll have to just use it one way or another.

Online booking is something they added as a nicety, it was not the baseline format for renting for DVC.

Ok if you say so. So now that DVC is 10x the size from when it was phone only everyone should call in? We should all expect a nice hit in dues as they have to triple the MS staff. They added online booking to save themselves money and it is now by far the primary method of booking rooms.

Everyone seems to be making this more difficult than it is.

• Post on here or Facebook you have 200 points (setting price/point upfront)
• When someone states what they want verify available
• Get information for booking (Name, Age - kids, Address/Email/Phone - Primary Renter)
• Provide them with contract (examples out there or if you need an example I will message you what I have used)
• Go to the online site and book the reservation
• Give the reservation to the person and request payment
• If they don't pay remind them of payment due and after a certain amount of time cancel the reservation and start over (unlikely to happen)

Don't call in, don't mention you are renting, and if you only do this a couple times you will never have an issue with DVC.

The difference between your line of thinking and mine is that I am considering that there might be any number of variables that could affect any number of the steps you have listed. Could everything go as smoothly as you claim? Absolutely. Could things take a turn and cost me much more time and money than anticipated? Yep. Maybe you've done this 10 times and had no problems whatsoever, that's amazing. But others have probably lost points and/or money doing it on their own, which is why they prefer renting through a 3rd party. None of this is one size fits all.

Could everything go as smoothly as you claim? Absolutely. Could things take a turn and cost me much more time and money than anticipated? Yep. Maybe you've done this 10 times and had no problems whatsoever, that's amazing. But others have probably lost points and/or money doing it on their own, which is why they prefer renting through a 3rd party. None of this is one size fits all.

Yep. And I would go out on a limb and say people who are in it for the most profit are the ones that do it themselves. If you aren't out to make the most money you use a broker. Pretty simple.

1. Deal with the 23 people a day on Facebook who want a BW studio 90 days out
2. Deal with the ones who have you book a reservation and then decide not to pay or then offer less per point


Some of us do not want a second job, we just want to list the points with a broker and be insulated from the Facebook wackos.

How? You get the money right after you reserve the room and fully control your points the entire time.

List with a broker if you want then for the 200 points and just outline to the broker you won't change names on a booked reservation you will only rebook it from scratch.

List with a broker if you want it doesn't matter to me but to act like its some massive lift is not being genuine here.

I want your job if your first job is that little of work.

I think the OP should have replied, my legal documents from DVC specifically states that renting occasionally IS allowed. Please connect me to your immediate supervisor.
