OK, here is the way things usually work. We check into a hotel. Go to the room. First thing DS and I do is grab the ice bucket and head out in search of the ice/vending machines. By the time we get back to the room, the DW has all of the clothes unpacked and into drawers. The suitcases are closed up and waiting for me by the door to take back down to the car.

I would love a WDW vacation at more than 1 resort, but how can I get the DW out of that mode.

Any suggestions?

:D hehehe! I had NO IDEA what the title of your thread meant, so I HAD to read it! :D

My DH is a "settler", I can be either one, and on a trip of a week or longer, I would definitely be a "hopper"! Last May we "hopped" from the Caribbean Beach Resort to the Grand Floridian and it was fine, but now DH says he'd like to stay at just one resort on future trips. I'm hoping I can change his mind before then!

I don't know how to change your DW, except to show her all of the WDW resorts and get her to not be able to make up her mind on just ONE resort, then suggest splitting your stay.

Maybe splitting between a Moderate and Deluxe would be a fun way to get to stay at more than one resort. Start out at CBR, then switch to the GF or Polynesian or Yacht Club! :p

Good luck!!!!! :D :p

We split a trip between the Contemporary and Port Orleans FQ.

The Contemporary was somewhere my DH and I wanted to stay since we were children, but it was out of our price league for a full week's stay. So we did 3 nights there and moved onto PO for 5 more.

The Pros:

1. Each resort, IMO, has a different atmosphere, so it was like taking two trips in one.

2. We got to experience a deluxe resort.

3. Moving ourselves and our things was a breeze. We didn't have a car and Disney took good care of us.

The Cons:

1. We lost most of the transition day. (Not too bad, because it's good to have a "down" day in the middle of a trip to relax.)

2. Because we had Bell Services move our things, we paid double the tips.

3. Didn't have a refillable mug at the Contemporary because it wouldn't have been worth it for only 3 nights.

Try 2 smaller suitcase for each person - ! for the first resort 1 for the next resort??????

I don't know if that would work!

Your wife sounds like me...to an extent. I do all the packing for us (3 kids included) and all the unpacking/organizing, etc. (It irks me to no end that if I didn't take care of it all myself that a 42 year old man would not think to take more than one t-shirt for a 3 or 4 day trip whenever we go anywhere...heck, the 3 year old is more responsible than that.) I'm not suggesting that you don't already participate in the preparation - I don't know that - but if maybe you help with the organization of the packing and unpacking then maybe she wouldn't feel so settled because setting up "base camp" while everyone is already out "exploring" can be a pain sometimes. We're considering a split stay in Sept. and this time I'm going to involve everyone in the process of preparation. If we decide to do the split, I'm also going to pack separate resort bags of our clothing so we don't have to unload so much at one resort.

I'm not so sure "settler" is the correct term. She sounds like a "nester" to me. My sister is a "nester" and it shows whenever we travel together. Everything MUST be out of the suitcases and in it's correct place, right down to the toothbrushes in the glasses by the sink with the toothpaste.

Me? I just drop the cases, lock up the valuables in the safe and I'm ON THAT BUS FOR THE PARKS, BABY!! I can unpack later. Needless to say, we don't travel together often. :) But, in the case of your wife, seperate vacations are probably out of the question.

The only advice I can give for a travelling partner of a "nester" (especially one that insists the suitcases are out of view so the room feels like home) is to go ahead and TRY two resorts, just on the morning that you're moving, bring the cases in from the car and start packing them while she's in the shower.

My sister is afraid that we'll leave things behind, so we each double-check the drawers, closets and safe while the cases are open, then after the car's packed up, we go back into the room and double-check again. I would also suggest if you're checking into another resort that day, it would appease her if you allow her to "nest" again as soon as possible. This may make the transition easier for her to take.

Good luck!
