I have a confirmed reservation at OKW for a 2 bedroom checking in Saturday 5/21 and checking out Friday 5/27. Relatives can not make trip so I would like to know if I can split off the studio and offer it for rent? Studio would be 74 points according to chart. Is this possible? If so, how do I go about it? I hate to waste the space since there will only be 3 of us. Thanks Fred

First of all, do you have a lockoff or dedicated booked? If it's a dedicated, there will not be a separate entrance for the studio. Second, the studio would be on the same reservation which means they could not have separate keys, separate charging. What you might want to do is see if a 1 bedroom is available and let the additional points go into holding to possibly rent.

Most of the 2 bedroom units at OKW are dedicated - only one entrance and no kitchenette in the 2nd bedroom. Unless the renters are family or very good friends, you probably would not want to share your unit with them.

If you have a lock off unit, this is possible. HOWEVER, both sets of keys would open the entrance to the 1 bedroom side and the entrance to the studio side. Again, not a great situation. I don't think the CMs can key them separately without changing the reservation to a studio and a 1 bedroom - then you have potential problems with waitlists plus it will cost more points than a single 2 bedroom unit.

I do not know how 2 bedroom units are assigned at OKW. I would suspect most are rented as separate studios and 1 bedrooms. FWIW, I don't think you have enough time to work out everything so that you can rent.

Isn't there someone else you could invite along? Sorry the relatives can't come, but since they cancelled so late, I say just enjoy the extra space - it won't be "wasted", LOL.

I did a 2 bedroom for 3 adults last December - It was very nice to have a bed for each person (we were cousins, all females) and it was also nice to have the kitchen/living area free for those who stay up late or get up early. The extra bathroom was a nice perk as well.

Best wishes -

Thanks, I called MS and it is a dedicated 2 bedroom so I guess we will just enjoy the room. Thanks for your help. Fred

About half of the 2 bedroom units are lock offs and half are dedicateds at OKW. If your reservation was for a lockoff, it would likely say that on the confirmation. When we have asked for a lock-off unit, that's how our reservations have come. If you reserved at the 11 month window and did not specifically ask for a lock-off, you probably will get a dedicated. Iwould't worry about wasted space though. You have 3 people, so everyone gets a bed and a bathroom. We often have a 2 bedroom for 3 people.

I would not feel comfortable renting the lock-off studio to a stranger, since the keys will open both doors.

I think DebbieB had a suggestion worth consideration--if there are 1Bs available, you can still rebook and let the excess points go into holding. As long as you aren't facing the end of your Use Year, you may be able to rent those points to a non-member without him/her even knowing the difference.

Other things to consider would be extending the trip for additional days in a smaller unit or trying to switch to another resort with higher point costs for the same nights. May isn't typically an extremely busy month, so you may have more flexibility than you realize.
