I would go sooner--meaning before you deliver.
The caveat with an infant sub-6 weeks are....
You are still healing
Infant may have typical newborn issues that get more difficult when trying to establish routine and interupting it with a vacation.
My daughter developed jaundice after she was born--and it was a PITA for 2 weeks as she went for daily blood work. It wasn't until after then that we could finally begin to get settled and I couldn't imagine going on vacation--and we are only 90 minutes away.
Leaving a newborn. No way--no how. I do not recommend it in the least. It's a new baby and baby's change so much in the first 6 weeks alone. If I had to take a trip--the bambino is coming along for the ride.
edited as comment I posted would be interpreted harsher than intended. My apologies to the OP.
