My partner and myself just returned from a conference at the Contemporary, so started thinking about a DVC. We go to Disney about every other year and have stayed anywhere from budget to deluxe resorts. We've reviewed all the information and I'm almost sold, especially with all the specials for Saratoga Springs.
My major questions are about the "member getaways" through Interval International. I am in the medical field, so I can always stay for free in Disney, because there's always medical conferences there. We were looking at the "over 500 worldwide destinations", and for me that is the most appealing part. However, do you have do book those as weeks, or can you book just a few days at a time like the Disney properties. We like taking several long weekend trips as opposed to a few longer trips. Also, how far in advance do you need to book these? We usually plan just a few months in advance, typically during slow times to avoid large crowds, so is this feasible with the II rooms? I guess I wasn't impressed with the concierge choices. We usually go to Disney with either a few family members or friends, not a large group, so would plan on that to the other locations as well. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Currently the Interval International trades are full weeks only. However, it was announced that that will be changing later this year, and that shorter booking will be possible. I was also reported that DVC members will be able to access II trading online.

This will not available at all II resorts, though, only specific timeshares...and they would almost have to be point based timeshare companies, not the older traditional weekly purchase timeshares.

How far in advance(in general) do you need to book for like Disney Boardwalk Villa, II places in Newport RI, Banff to be almost guaranteed a room? Again usually during the off seasons. Thanks

It's generally accepted here that it doesn't make financial sense to buy DVC just to use the non-DVC benefits.
