Waltons Remake

It seems everything is being remade these days.

How do you think this will go over with today's audience? I grew up watching this show as a kid. I'm not sure how many people want to be reminded of the Great Depression these days.

I re-watched the original series during the early days of the pandemic. I found it comforting to see a family pulling together during hard times, especially as I knew their hard times did end.

I don't think it's something I would remake, though.

Hollywood needs to learn how to come up with some original ideas again. Believe it or not, not every creative idea has been tapped, and if they tried harder, they'd come up with some.

Agree and they don’t even have to reinvent the wheel, really. Family-drama type shows have always been popular and probably always will and Lord knows contemporary life gives plenty of fodder for storylines.

I was never into the Waltons that much to begin with. I'm surprised the studios aren't going after something more popular like Little House.

I'm out of touch with many of the TV remakes these days. I found out late that there's a new Magnum PI and MacGuyver. I wouldn't be surprised if they made a new Golden Girls, given how it's gained some retro popularity.

(And I kind of felt like Hot in Cleveland was an unofficial reboot of Golden Girls. It kind of hit the same vibe, but the "girls" weren't quite as old.)

I watched it when it was first on because we had very few channels and choices.

I found it to be depressing and would have zero interest in watching a remake of it.

I did love Little House on the Prairie but don't want a remake of that either.

This is why I've been watching Kdramas. They are really good.

Loved the original Movies (both Spencer's Mountain and The Homecoming), loved the series, loved the Specials.

There are a few things that I absolutely don't care about a reboot, but I'm sure I'll watch this one.

Despite all the vitriol spewed at Hollywood and entertainment and people who work in it nowadays, most people I interact with (both personal and professionally) have a much more positive attitude about the industry. Just like every other industry there's always a mix of opinions and there may be some 'lazy' people but also some of the hardest working people I know are in the field.

I am very much willing to look at projects both original and reboots as opportunities.

Except for The Princess Bride (and maybe a few others LOLOLOLOLOL).

In truth the rural families for once did have it easier than city dwellers. They could hunt, raise, grow and process their own food and were very use to economizing. Weirdly one of the times when being poor actually prepared you for a crisis.

My mom, a late in life child, was raised on a ranch by depression era adults. Those skill sets and life hacks were things my grandparents taught her and she taught me. Not that I use them very much. I'm a hunter/gatherer of the local supermarket instead of the land, but weirdly remember those lessons from when I was a kid.

Was never that big a fan of the original version. Reunions a few years after the show ended using the original cast can sometimes work and there can be a few storylines about what they have been doing the past few years. When many years have passed and the original characters have outgrown their roles, makes less sense. Magnum PI and MacGuyver are examples where they used the name of an old show with new characters and not sure that accomplishes anything.

When the show aired there were many people, my parent's included, who had lived during the depression and could find things in common with the Walton's. That is no longer true today as most of these people are gone. While I might enjoy it, harking back to memories of my parent's, I am not so sure others would.
