Walt would be ashamed.

I dunno...can someone explain to me how they are LOSING money from VMK? :confused3

I honestly don't think they are. 'Money' is what people automatically think when they close something. I've heard of no official statements from Disney saying the reason they closed it involved money. People automatically just want to blame Disney and yell the first thing that makes sense.

But honestly, that doesn't make sense. Just think about it. How are they losing money? They can't be.

Well, websites do cost money to maintain.
Especially a Disney-owned one like VMK. They have to hire people to constantly add new things, create games, and just to overall make sure things are going okay technically.

If they're not making enough money back on advertisements to pay these people's salaries, then they'd be losing money instead of making a profit.

That's why I figured they were closing it, anyway.

As for the money issue, it could be a possibility. But they shouldn't have to close down a site because of it. Disney is a rich company, and the costs that they had to pay to mantain the site (i.e: Admins, Domains, Servers, Etc.) is like pocket change to Disney.

Yeah I guesss they do need to pay the wages of webmasters and all that.
BUT...as I quoted in a previous post fmor the VMK website...they'll STILL be selling VMK themed items in the parks.

SO anyways...I think you are completely right Jenny.
And I agree with what you said on another board about it being like the wand @ EPCOT.
It really WAS only intended as a limited time thing.

They're saying "Oh, join toontown, it's better!"

Erm. No.

They're investing in a couple of new virtual worlds. Cars, Disney Faeries.
IMO...it's stupid. They're never going to be better than VMK. They're just lowering the target age which really sucks.
Adults used to play VMK and now they're going to be left with a Cars coloring book and counting games?
:snooty:

Exactly.
I'm not saying Disney is a bad company at all. But they need to rethink this.
A lot of people won't play the other games.
I know I won't.

Do you play VMK?

I'm not trying to offend you, or be rude in this post.

VMK.
Its different. The way things work out, you need to COMPLETELY understand EVERYTHING about the game, and how it works in order to say a statement like that.

Vmk, is a community. You cant remember it for being "An online game" no, see theres like a vibe, how you know you would log on just to see PEOPLE. Not just to play pirates, earn credits, and do random things. Its this magical feeling in which I cannot describe.

Even if you read up on everything of it shutting down, but dont play it, you still wont understand ANYTHING about the game. Even pictures dont describe it.

Nothing can describe VMK, but playing it for yourself.

I understand, there's a lot of things in my life that have changed and I was very upset about it. But eventually you just have to realize that it's out of your control. Disney is going to close VMK. Disney is going to change their restaurant menus. Disney is going to change attractions. It's just how Disney works.

If that post was aimed towards my post, thats not exactly what I meant, but I understand that.
Things come and go, some are sad, some are good.
Its how life works for everything.

Nope...never played VMK.
I tried to sign up years ago but I couldn't figure it out.
I understand what you mean, I mean fi the Dis was run by Disney and they closed it I'd be upset.
I'm sure if I played it I'd be a bit more upset.

This thread is so random & there are so many different points floating around so it's hard for everyone to get theirs across.

I mean, the main points I'm trying to make are that
a) Walt WOULDN'T be ashamed of today's Disney Co.
&
b) VMK isn't closing due to loss of money for Disney Co.

I'm definitley in no way saying that you guys don't have the right be to upset that it's closing, because I'm sure I would too...it's just that SO many different things got thrown into the mix of this thread that everyones opinions are going all over the place lol.

And I'm also not intending to offend you or anything, but I jsut don't understand what you mean by this:
The way things work out, you need to COMPLETELY understand EVERYTHING about the game, and how it works in order to say a statement like that.

I mean, I was just stating facts? :confused3

Oh okay gotcha!

Yes, my choice of wording didnt exactly fit what my mind was saying.

Yeah, I dont think its about money at all, I just think that maybe....just maybe they are closing it because its just becoming some sort of hassle? Or, because the workers are bored, and they will soon need to "modify" it to be better graphics or something, and they just dont have the time and energy.

This is also confusing me, because everyones emotions are all thrown around everywhere so its almost like "Well it seems to be that everyone thinks.." but thats not the case at all.

Okay, I gotcha now.

Phew.

I liked VMK and everything, but it is just an online game. Some of you are acting like its your life and without it you will go insane. VMK was full of the Disney magic and spirit and I was an active VMKer, but it's Disney's decision. VMK was meant to be a promotion for Disneyland's 50 anniversary (I believe); It was not meant to even be open this long. I was very sad when I first heard VMK was closing, and just today I got over it. It was fun when it lasted. But it's their decision.

I never played VMK...was it really that great?

Yes.

Im not exactly the gamer type, never has been, never really will be.
VMK, its like its own little community, I could go in for hours and hours going into every little detail, but its just not the same.

Its the most fun I've EVER had with a game.

VMK is AMAZING.
For the past 2 years, I've been hooked and had so much fun with all my friends there. It can't leave.

I will miss all the rides, all the pins to trade, the fun games most of all my friends, bye friends, bye Vmk

nooooo
i havent been on in a while but that is soo sad!!!
that game is amazing!!!
:sad1:

all that effort to get all that cool stuff!
all gone!
:sad1:
