Resort Thread Walt Disney World SWAN, DOLPHIN & SWAN RESERVE Resorts

......Edited to add that I haven't seen this thread in quite awhile. I didn't realize it was moved from the regular "resorts" forum. :guilty:
Hi Patty, nice to see you again.

I had no idea of that either. :confused3 Seems like a strange place to put a resort planning thread.

I believe there has been some shuffling of the various DIS Boards and their focus. Perhaps a Mod or one of the Webmasters can explain it. @WebmasterJackie

Yes, we're working on some changes to the way resort information threads are handled. I don't want to get into too many details while we're still in the in-progress phase, but we're going to try to keep planning and social discussions on this board, and informational threads on the main Resorts board.

Stay tuned. :)

I did take a look at pricing for an Osborne Lights last dance in December. My husband isn't interested, but my two sons are, so would probably look at the week before Christmas when son #2 finishes up his semester. In the interests of saving some money, I'm considering the three of us staying in one room (ugh), with a rollaway. I was really surprised to see that the Dolphin rooms are 360 sq. ft., and the Swan are 340 sq. ft. I'm not sure why I thought the Swan rooms were bigger.
Who has done a rollaway, and how did it work out for you? I may be there a couple of days by myself before the boys can get there, so it would probably be three to four days with three of us.

So, now I'm wondering which would be more comfortable to sleep on...a rollaway added to the room, or the pull-out sofa in a king bedded room? Anyone had experience with either or both that they could share?

Hi Lynne. Thanks for the update.

Actually, I had no idea this sub forum even existed until Patty mentioned it the other day. Since I have the thread subscribed, a new post just takes me to the thread, not the forum.

I did look and see you have a sticky thread on the 'regular' resort board, explaining this new idea, providing links to all these now moved resort informational threads. But, we all know how much sticky threads are read.

Wouldn't these resort specific threads be considered 'informational' threads and not social discussions. I know the chit chat threads that start out on many of the more primary boards do get moved to sub forum community boards if the main forum has one. But I would think all these close to 25 resort information threads would fall into more informational rather than social discussions or chit-chat type threads, no?

If ultimately it is deemed that all these resort informational threads reside on the more chit-chat community board, I would really second the thoughts put forth here by Erika and WDWKOOK to update the name of this sub forum to indicate that it also contains all these resort specific informational threads.

http://www.disboards.com/threads/would-it-be-possible-to-change-the-name-of-this-sub-board.3437528/

It makes no difference to me or others who have subscribed prior to the moving, but others looking for these type of threads and/or new folks to the boards would never know they even exist to help them in their planning.

Thanks for all you do, Lynne.

Our trip to our home away from home, the Swan, is just over 30 days away. This time we are staying for just short of 2 weeks and I can't wait! Does anyone know if they have washer/dryers to be able to do a load of wash? Not that I want to do laundry on my vacation, but I do want to travel light.

I do want to comment that although I'm not on the Disboards a lot, I don't like the latest changes to the site. I had a heck of a time finding the Swan & Dolphin forum even though I'm subscribed to it. My feed tells me I'm not watching any threads, but when I get to to it, it has a "unwatch thread" button.

There is a large laundry room in the Dolphin, on the ground floor on the way to the pool. Not sure about the Swan.

As ckelly said above, the Dolphin only. However none at the Swan.

As for the thread, this thread and the other resort informational threads were recently moved here to the chit chat community board. Not sure why, but that is where they are now. However, the fact that your thread shows 'unwatch thread', means that your account is 'watching' the thread. 'Watch' is this software's term for subscribe.

If I remember correctly, isn't the Swan a "Westin" and the Dolphin is a "Sheraton?" Maybe Starwood wanted their brands distinguished by size? I'm not sure if they were always Starwood hotels but that's the only guess I can come up with!

You're right. Swan is a Westin, and Dolphin a Sheraton. Westin is the more "upscale" brand, which is why I assumed the Swan would have bigger rooms. Of course, you know what happens when you assume...

I just booked our first trip staying at the Swan for Jan 2016. I got two standard rooms, but it's very important I get connecting rooms. I called the Swan and spoke to a woman on the phone that said connecting rooms would most likely be available but could not guarantee it. Has anyone ever had an experience where they could not get connecting rooms? I am using Starwood points so staying at another hotel isn't really an option, and there was no suite availability.

Good morning, its my first time on this thread, I scanned the first pages, so excuse me if this info is in here somewhere. I've stayed Swan/Dolphin several times, and was checking out dates for my upcoming trip in 2016 and just noticed dolphin has a club level? Never knew that. Is it like other deluxe hotel concierge level? Lounge with food throughout day? Thanks for your help

Thanks for speedy reply. I was on official swandolphin web site checking pricing and it said "club level not available for these dates, check flexible calendar. Thought it was too good to be true. Thanks again

Re making FP+ reservations at 60 days - does it matter if they spelled someone's last name wrong on the SPG reservation? I spelled it out for her but when I look at the confirmation email, she still got it wrong. Do I need to call back?
